It is worrying, though, that we are already hearing things like "too expensive", "difficult to sign in January". These statements are simply not accurate since many players have release clauses or have contracts ending in the summer. These sound to me like excuses already to justify why we won't be signing anyone. If you think about it, Gvardiol and Haaland aside, when is the last time we signed some truly world-class talent and not a project player? Sure, we have signed some great players for squad-depth, but we are at a stage when squad-players simply won't cut it anymore, and it's only our fault that we need to do this business right now. Who made the call that Savinho and Gundogan are enough in the summer? That was truly shocking decision making. All that in light of record breaking profits for a couple of years now. Unacceptable. If you are not moving forward, you're moving backwards. I said at the end of the 2022/23 season, that Liverpool are going to be our main threat in the 23/24. They weren't, but I wasn't far off, because they are miles ahead of us now, and I said it in light of them signing some really good player at that time. I wanted them here and they were available at reasonable prices. They weren't the only ones too, there were so many players that we could have targeted. We have ourselves to blame for this mess.
