I thought it was part of Spanish labour law that you can't be hired for less than half your previous salary, to avoid exploitation I suppose not to protect millionaire footballers. But Spanish labour law nevertheless. Could be wrong, though.
Ahh, I think you're right about that although as you say, La Liga would probably make an exception for RM anyway.

That said, would that not only apply if moving within the country and not from outside?

Of course we are,he's a **** and the footballing world knows it.
But he's a great player. I really thought someone might have tried to get him on the cheap already or like Bayern did a loan with an option and never picking it up. I've always had a suspicion he'll end up at Barca somehow and we don't benefit financially from it at all.

That isn't the issue though is it, plenty clubs would happily have a **** playing for them. It is the situation they can and will exploit, that everyone is playing down the clock with.

He's probably not a ****. None of us know him. From what I've seen or heard he just spat his dummy out once because he was a spoilt professional footballer... just like the rest of the squad. If he stays we get a fantastic player.
Plenty of players have fallen out with managers and been perceived as cunts in the media doing so. but then they've always had a club come in for them, un like we do now for Cancelo. Maybe we want goof money because he's a great player no doubt.

Not sure, but it was touted as one of the reasons Barcelona couldn't take Messi back I think.

I know enough to understand he almost derailed our most successful season.

You cant be wired right to want that back.

i thought if Mahrez was leaving then we had a list of at least 3 wingers to replace him?
Rico Lewis playing so well as an 8 yesterday probably helps us. Let’s be real, it’s going to be hard for him to get into our back line with us preferring to play all centre backs with Stones stepping up, so him being an option as an 8 then frees up Bernardo to play on the wing more often. I’d still prefer to buy either another 8 or a winger and then we just move our versatile players (eg Foden and Bernardo) around accordingly. But Rico threw his name into the hat yesterday for the midfield positions.

yeah we do have options in the middle of swopping stuff around but if Mahrez goes then he needs replaced imo as i just dont see Cancelo cutting it out there and his obvious lack of fight if things get tough and he`s not getting picked? Keeping Bernardo this summer would be huge and very much welcomed but if Mahrez goes we need to bring in a winger replacement? If we have to loan say Cancelo to Barca then maybe Dembele to us?

I think has been said we always have a list on 3 players we scout/target when a player leaves. Interesting we've only heard links to Olise so far.

agreed although Barcola and Cherki have also been mentioned? The club would be mental to trust Cancelo imo and he`s not a wide player anyway.

I think its a worse case scenario and would think if we can't secure a transfer for him would loan him because at least that way he might end up generating interest from somewhere.

Think Cancelo would be pretty low down the list to play there though. Bernardo and Foden would play there before him. Even Bobb/Palmer (whoever stays) would be preferred. I don’t think Cancelo playing there is a thing we have to be concerned about.

Some fucking short memories on here regarding Laporte, some disgraceful takes imo.

Remember the season before last when the guy played the run-in on basically one leg because we were fucked defensively? Delayed surgery, had a HUGE part in us winning the league and ended up ultimately costing him last season imo
Spot on.
Would we have signed Akanji, had Laporte started the season fully fit.

Still a top class player leaving and not being replaced properly though mate?
