It's Quiet 18 - Wanna ring the bell?

Not a chance we’re selling stones. World class when fit, offers experience and is a big character in the dressing room. He’d be a huge miss.

If we did sign him, it would make me question our choices. We had Harwood Bellis who I think has a higher ceiling than him and cost nothing

Not seen much of Everton CB so can’t comment. Stones is an issue though and I think he goes in the summer. “When fit” is the issue. He’s rarely fit. Same with Ake. Also, as much as I love Stones for what he’s done for us he hasn’t replicated the form from the 2nd half of the treble season ever since the CL final. I don’t think his body can cope with playing that CB/ CM hybrid role and as an out an out centre half, when the rest of the team isn’t full of world class footballers on the ball I think he struggles.

I'd love the rumours of 2-4 signings to be true but it seems very out of character for us. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see no first-team players come in.
It’s out of character for us to have just 1 win in 11 games. Let’s have an out-of-character transfer window this January.

Another thing while listening to multiple podcasts about Man City during the last month was the interesting buy of Gvardiol. He was bought because he was available and Leipzig was willing to sell. In short an easier transfer negotiation.

A LB like Robinson would have been better investment in half the money but the board decided to take the easier option that they often tend to do in the last 4-5 years. There is a reason we only do release clauses because they are easy.

In order to revive the club into another cycle of stupendous success, we need to alter our playbook as most organisations do after a down period.
you are saying we should have passed on signing a haaland-level defender (in terms of future potential and unique skill set) in gvardiol beacuse he had a release clause so he was an "easy transfer" to do, and instead sign a mid table level PL LB?

gvardiol is better technically right now than robinson will ever will be and will be one of the best defenders on the planet for the next 10 years, and was one of our best players last season in a position which isn't even his primary position.

can't believe you are seriously suggesting we should have signed robinson instead of gvardiol.

Branthwaite has a much larger physical presence, THB is quite weak for his size. Either way, I think you could get better CBs abroad for that price
Agree that we could get better CB’s abroad for same price. However at some point we can’t just buy all the players needed from abroad.

To ensure we don’t end up with a small squad we need to bring Academy players through into the squad and/or homegrown association trained. So we need to look at association trained players who are good enough to be in our squad, because Stones, Ake, Walker, Grealish, Carson probably will in all likelihood be gone come summer 2026.
