Does Rodri ever play centre back? If not, in our system surely he can. I’m just aware that with fern, rodders, Gundogan, Phil, Kev, Dave and Bernardo all vying for midfield places we’re at least one heavy even if we totally rotate. It makes sense that we don’t sign a cb and use fern or rodders as cb in the right games eg Brighton, Norwich, etc

And, as anyone who has done one will tell you, timeshare agreements are always exactly as they were described at signing and consistently applied without any issue.

Keep Otamendi for one more year.
Use Fernandinho and Garcia as 4th and 5th choice.
Next summer at least two foreign spots will have opened up with Silva and Bravo leaving, possibly Otamendi too.
Use the money to buy a top quality centre back from abroad that actually improves us.

Some on here cry constantly about international football because it disrupts their personal routine, completely failing to realise that most of our players would choose country over club if push came to shove.At the same time, he probably realised that it is his last chance to represent his country at major tournament, can’t blame him for that
