Does Rodri ever play centre back? If not, in our system surely he can. I’m just aware that with fern, rodders, Gundogan, Phil, Kev, Dave and Bernardo all vying for midfield places we’re at least one heavy even if we totally rotate. It makes sense that we don’t sign a cb and use fern or rodders as cb in the right games eg Brighton, Norwich, etc

I think we have a timeshare agreement with Anderlecht for Vinny, as well.

And, as anyone who has done one will tell you, timeshare agreements are always exactly as they were described at signing and consistently applied without any issue.
 
Would you rather:
£70-80m for Maguire?
or £70-80m for Bonucci and Aké? (Less in hindsight since Otamendi will be sold obv)
or £40m for Aké only + keep Otamendi?

Save the money.

Keep Otamendi for one more year.

Use Fernandinho and Garcia as 4th and 5th choice.

Next summer at least two foreign spots will have opened up with Silva and Bravo leaving, possibly Otamendi too.

Use the money to buy a top quality centre back from abroad that actually improves us.

Some on here cry constantly about international football because it disrupts their personal routine, completely failing to realise that most of our players would choose country over club if push came to shove.

I say keep Otamendi and give Eric Garcia more starts, the kid is more than ready.

Or go all out for a top 5 CB like Koulibaly

I think what hurts us is having Bravo as our backup keeper, it means we have no leeway with the non-HG quota whereas if we kept Muric instead, we could get someone this summer. I understand why we're doing it though, we don't want to hinder Muric's progress and we're standing by Bravo after a long injury but it would make things a lot easier if the 2nd choice keeper was HG.

I feel like this is something we should be talking about more. We don't seem to be doing much in the way of contingency planning and in the worst case scenario we will lose David Silva and Ilkay Gundogan, Fernandinho will be 35, Aguero will have one year left on his deal, and we could potentially have to sell Sane or else risk losing him for free the summer after. We have a very strong squad obviously, but things can change quickly. And if we don't sign a centerback this summer thats one more thing to worry about.

Think we tried to sign Joao Felix to replace Silva next year but obviously that failed.

I'm hopeful Sane and Gundogan will sign new deals, and I think Fernandinho could do one more year. Also, if we were given a transfer ban, I think the club would try and persuade Sergio to stay a bit longer.

I think Sane will eventually sign too. Obviously the worst case scenario is unlikely to happen, I just feel like we could be doing a little more this summer to prepare. Will withhold my judgement until August though.
