It's Quiet - a new dawn

players who are nailed on too start when fit ........Ederson, Walker, Mendy, Kompany, Silva, Sanchez

Toure, Fernandinho, Kolarov will know they are squad players.

only players who I could see whining if they are not in the starting 11 are Sane, Jesus, De Bruyne, Sterling (sterling being no great loss)

Don't see Aguero kicking up a fuss as he has prob been told give it his all next season and we will let him leave next year for Argentina

he was one of our best player last season, a young talent swell. he would be a big loss.

Ederson/Bravo

Mendy/Bertrand
Van Dijk/Otamendi
Kompany/Stones
Walker/Dani alves

Yaya/Fernandinho
Gundogan/D.Silva
Bernardo/De Bruyne

Sane/Sancho
Jesus/Aguero
Sanchez/Sterling

I think Bernardo will feature in the middle as often, if not moreso, as he will on the right.
Not with Walker in the team. Bernardo will be on the right, but allowed to move centrally by virtue of Walker providing the width. Same on the other flank with Sanchez and Mendy, should we actually sign them.

What did I say that was wrong?

"Massive problem". That's absolute garbage. You really think it's a massive problem for Bayern or Real that they may have two or three upset players in the squad whilst they continue to win everything in sight? The answer simply put is - no. They don't give a fuck. And neither should we. Either have the mentality that you want to be the best possible or be Arsenal and keep some bullshit hierarchy of players who are collectively not good enough whilst pretending you're a 'top' club.

But if they all 'deserve' minutes, they can all play a similar amount, which would add up to plenty of game time each. Imo the problem is those who don't deserve game time but get it anyway.

We have had this for years re using young players in the squad: 'the manager has to keep the senior players happy'. No he doesn't, they can just fuck off, the same as they do from Barca or Real Madrid.

If they can't get in the team due to performance, & are sulking, get rid, sign someone else or promote a kid & so on. Whoever that apllies to. Just replace them.

People seem hung up on this keeping players happy lark.

They'll all get plenty of games, as you say those delivering the most will get the most minutes and those struggling to make an impact will next summer become targets for second tier clubs like Liverpool, Arsenal and the Milan clubs if they eventually get their act together.

I imagine the idea is, our squad matches the very best and those falling behind go to the second tier. Much like Sanchez & Ozil went to Arsenal & Di Maria went to the rags. We will hopefully be the elite club, we won't be paying clubs to take Nasri and Bony on loan, clubs like Inter & Arsenal will be in a bidding war for our cast offs.

If our front six is Bernardo, Sané, Aguero, Sterling, Jesus & Sanchez and say Bernardo & Aguero don't perform as well, then we can expect a bidding war.
After this summer, gone are the days of desperately trying to shift our shit.

Head on nail/Nail on head

Too many cooks...
I understand the need to be stocked all over the pitch, but it seems a bit absurd we'd have ~£180m of recently spent money on the bench + Aguero. Although I do agree with the sentiment Aguero will see less playing time with the arrival of Alexis, I could see Aguero forcing a move at that point. It's a bit fantasy football and I think too crowded has just as many problems as "not crowded enough".

Can never really get my head around the "What will our starting 11 be" threads. We played the same team for two games in a row twice all season and played nearly 60 games. We made more changes than any other side in the league. With the quality of the squad we're building, I can only assume that trend is going to continue.

Some top sides you can reel off the starting 11 off the top of your head - Chelsea last season, Barca when they won the treble under Pep, The Shite in 1999. But some top sides don't have a recognisable starting 11 and instead have 14 or 15 world class players who rotate - Real Madrid over the years, Pep's Bayern, The Shite in 2008. We'll fall in to the latter category. We won't have a recognised starting 11, we'll probably have a core of 5 or 6 players who start every big game - Ederson, Kompany, Mendy, Walker, David Silva, then the rest will play depending on fitness, form and the opposition.

The key is winning. Lack of playing time will be soothed by lifting the trophy at the end of the season. We all talk about how Isco is being wasted at Madrid and so on, but tonight he'll get the chance to win his 3rd CL medal. In the end if you win, it will all be forgiven. Now if you lack playing time and the team keeps losing, thats another story altogether...

Good shout that Billy. The more quality players we have the better. Medals are always a handy antidote to hurt feelings!
