It's Quiet - a new dawn

Imagine the outrage in London if we sign Sanchez, Walker and Alderweireld that would be amazing

Yeah, I'm not sure what's stranger about it, a buyback clause is nearly always fixed. if it's not fixed, it'd be a sort of "first refusal" option.

The only surprise is it's so low, £35m is 40% above £25m and I'd have thought it would be least £40-50m.

Unless Tolmie means it's a guaranteed buyback, so it's basically just a loan with funny accounting.

I don't know what smoke and mirrors are involved.

You only have to look at the convoluted way the Rulli deal is seemingly structured heavily in our favour?

City want £25m (that's not the issue for any of the clubs) it's the caveat that City can buy him back at any time for a fixed 40 per cent premium.

I suppose clubs such as West Ham will ask what if he becomes a £60m player and we are forced to sell to City for £35m.

It just goes to show how difficult some of these deals can be.

If Nacho is found out, we just never take up the guarantee, but the other club gets left holding the baby.

It's bizarre.

That is essentially what all buy-back clauses are like though, for example our Enes Unal one is €25m - what if he scores 30 goals next season and is suddenly the new wonderkid striker, and Villarreal only make €11m profit on him when his value on an open market could be €60m.

Real Madrid sold Moratta for €20m to Juventus with a buy back of €30m. A year on Real's bench later the rags are buying him for €80m or €90m

It's a proper strong-arm that the European super-clubs use, and it's a great sign of our progress that we're seeing them now IMO.

£35m seems too low, I would assume that's where the negotiations would focus between the clubs.

I don't think Spurs will sell Toby for £40m. First reason is they might feel they could convince him to sign a contract by next summer. Secondly £17m isn't very much for them to lose possibly the best CB in the league. He could be the difference between them winning and losing the title for £17m.

Why?

We need somewhere he can go and develop. If we sell him they'll spend £3-4m a year on his wages, and then we'll buy him back after paying them a few million for the favour of developing him for us.

It's a bit arrogant to expect West Ham to end up losing money in this arrangement. Yes they get a great player for a couple of years if he comes good, but it's still a gamble on their part.

Because you want more than a loan, which could end whenever. You want the buying club invested in his growth, you want a semblance of permanence so he gets his feet under the table and Bilic isn't thinking "Well perhaps I should try X because we need to cope without Iheanacho next year." in march when they've got nothing to play for.

Do you think Real couldn't have found a free loan destination for Alvaro Morata? Of course, but they sold him to Juventus for €20m and bought him back after 2 years for €30m. Being a Juventus player and not a disposable loanee would have helped him enormously.

Nope, it's a solid 40 per cent.

It's more a case the likes of some clubs not having had previous dealings at such a tactical level.

You keep saying 40%...Obviously 40% on top of £25m is £35m, but if you're saying a percentage does that mean there could be movement on the fee? So if they pay £30m now, they get £42m later, or if they pay £20m now, only £28m later?
