John and the rest aren't supposed to be splitting entire teams open with laser precision passing all the time (although the ability to do so is a huge plus). Stones ability to shimmy around an oncoming challenge or two means that those further down the pitch are going to end up with more room and time on the ball.
There was a good debate about it between Carragher and Henry but I wouldn't know where to find it. The latter clearly appreciated this style of play from teammates like Pique as it helped him at the other end of the pitch.
