It's Quiet - a new dawn

Or we could do what every single other club in the world does and just play the kid without loaning them out for 5 years.

Re-signing Navas is curtailing Maffeo's development, I can't believe so many people are so wilfully blind to that.

Pep is tasked to develop MCFC not Maffeo. If the 2 things collide then great.

It is you my friend who are being 'wilfully bind'.

Your judgement against Peps ? Sorry but whilst you are entitled to your opinion, it is a no contest !

Kolarov, but that wasn't because of injury and, further, it was three days after the United game which Maffeo played a full 90 minutes in.

Let me dumb it down for you;

Pep Guardiola good coach. Want to build successful team. Gives debut to player. Wants player to be good. Sends player on loan to help make him good.

Presumably you're talking about this:

http://www.manchestereveningnews.co...news/man-city-news-guardiola-academy-12487582

Just a few problems:
1. He wasn't specially talking about Maffeo, or even City, but the problem with PL academy kids not breaking through easier.
2. Nowhere does he state "all" a specific player needs is game time in front of a big crowd to be ready.

Oh sorry, did City confirm it then?

Sure, Sammy is reputable, but things change and he gets stuff wrong too, particularly on transfers.

He's a City player until 2019 and he's not even 20 yet.

No existing competition, so throw him to the lions right? Wrong. Maybe he's not ready and maybe Pep's a better evaluator of that than you.

So to summarise, you're burying your head in the sand and hoping Navas isn't being offered a new contract, and you're parroting the same old bullshit that giving someone a chance is "throwing them to the lines", following up with the old classic "manager can do no wrong because he's a manager and knows better than everyone else".

Also, no, it wasn't Kolarov, it was Fernando.

We played three at the back, Stones, Ota, Kolarov.

I believe Navas probably is being offered a one year contract, and I've argued on here that it makes sense. I also believe Pep Guardiola is a better judge of footballing talent than you, I suspect many would feel the same.

You want to say that there's some agenda by Pep and his development team to "fuck off" Pablo Maffeo, shooting themselves in the foot in the process, because reasons. Your evidence for this is that extending Navas as squad depth indicates he doesn't intend to give Maffeo any more chances.

I'm fairly sure that football coaches generally don't work that way, and another year on loan may even help him if required, but hey, that's your opinion and you're entitled to it. Moving on?

I'd like to move on, but you keep posting bullshit which I feel compelled to put right.

We played 4 at the back with Fernando RB.

Here's an interview with Pep after the game praising his performance at RB and talking abuot how he coached him for the role

Uhh, no pal, I've never said that, that's pure invention on your part.

It is hilarious how quickly people try to shut down discussion with this nonsense. Yeah, I agree, Guardiola is a better judge of footballing talent than me, but that doesn't mean he doesn't frequently make mistakes - he's said as much himself - and people, whether it's journalists or the average joe on a football forum are completely entitled to criticise those mistakes when he makes them, or they feel he's making them.

Ah of course! No one can criticise anything anyone at the club does because we're not professionals and in the game.

I'll bear that in mind any time you criticise a player, after all, if you're so fucking good at it you should be playing yourself shouldn't you!

In fact, perhaps you should tell Ric to just shut down the forum, as we're not allowed to discuss decisions of player, managers or club, as they know best and are obviously infallible.

I'm all for differences of opinions, I enjoy reading about the youth players from people who know more than myself , yourself,NN , twosips and a few others, and I respect every bodies opinion, but your becoming a bit obsessed with maffeo ,I hope your opinion is spot on,as it would give me great pleasure watching a home grown city 11

as for telling ric to shut down the forum, well that comment makes you sound a right smacked arse.
as for not questioning pep on all things football, I would back his opinion over most people in football never mind someone on an internet forum with a hard on for a youth player.

You don't know everything that's the point he was trying to make
Your opinion and criticism is based on what you know and think your entitled to that and feel free to share it with us but you don't know everything and should cover your arse with a IMHO

I'm no more "obsessed" with Maffeo than any other youth player that's been passed over when their time to get a chance had so clearly arrived, and seen their City career never happen because of it.

The forum comment was quite clearly sarcasm, I think the tone of that was pretty clear and the point remains true, if we can't question decisions made by players, managers or the club then what the hell are you doing on here discussing those things?

Yeah, so would I, but I've got every right to say I feel the manager, who admits himself he makes plenty of mistakes, is making another mistake here, and complain about that on a forum dedicated to discussion about City, and in this case our transfer business of re-signing a 31 year old winger instead of giving a promising youth player a chance.

FFS give it a rest. Some posters make this transfer forum unbearable at times.

I mean, coming from someone who thinks Pep sent Maffeo to Girona to "fuck him off", it's a bit rich to be talking about posting bullshit here.

Fair enough, the team lineup showed three at the back with Nando in CM.

Still was only a few days after Maffeo played 90 mins.

Uhh, no pal, I've never said that, tha'ts pure invention on your part.

Yeah it is Pep, and yeah, fucking off a 20 year old fullback when he's got no existing competition for a spot is exactly that...fucking them off.

...right.

Who's trying to shut down discussion here? It's a legitimate point.

You think Maffeo is ready, Pep clearly doesn't (yet).

Sure Pep gets it wrong, but so do you and I'd wager you get it wrong an awful lot more, that's why he's there and you're not. It isn't your fault. He sees the training, the development, the statistics. He talks to the players, their agents, their loan clubs. You sit and theorycraft on Blue Moon.

So how about this: We don't know if Maffeo will go off on loan again next summer, and we don't know about the final year of his contract either. So instead of baselessly accusing Pep of "fucking off" a 19 year old, how about we just wait and see what happens?

It's a forum. It's pretty damn obvious that 99% of comments on here are opinions and it's easily conveyed through context.

I'm sure you don't bother to write IMHO every single time you express an opinion on here.

Anyway this is all getting away from transfers so I'll summarise and then piss off.

IMHO IMO IMHO re-signing Navas is condemning Maffeo to the same fate we've seen for the last dozen kids that were good enough to get a chance but never did, and it's a collossal mistake by Guardiola, who should take a leaf out of Pochettino, Koeman, Klopp and van Gaal's books and just give the kid a chance instead of waiting until he's so pissed off at the players being put ahead of him that he leaves on a free.
