It's Quiet - a new dawn

He was coming along well next to Kompany but still had moments of mindblowing shiteness, however, for the first time since arriving, he was starting to play as if he realised there were two cbs & a team, rather than just him on his own on the whole pitch. I swear on one occasion I saw the ball in the air & he didn't charge toward it.

But we overpaid for him absolutely.

Some of the shite playing & succeeding in other leagues though, he is worth money if we were to sell him. Savic plays for Atletico.

That means Otamendi could play there, no problem.
I'm absolutely convinced Otamendi could look really good in the right team, under the right manager. As you say, he'd look good at Atletico and I know this sounds ridiculous but I reckon Pulis would knock him into shape and he'd look good in their hugely defensive way of playing. Kompany seems to have the gift of being able to bring a level of calmness to whoever is playing alongside him which is great but no doubt they'd all revert to headless chicken mode if he is out for any length of time. Which is why when people are considering VVD and discussing stuff like tackling stats, I think it is more important than anything to consider how composed he is under pressure and even more importantly whether he can bring that composure to those around him. The next CB we sign needs to be a leader, it's as simple as that. I'm just so pleased that pep had a couple of months to see what things could be like with a proper player back there. Supporters seem 50/50 on whether we need a centre back, but as much as Pep went on and on about missing chances being our big problem, I reckon he will now be thinking "fuck that" at the idea of Stones and Otamendi being his defensive partnership for any length of time next season. He must know it would undermine everything.

I agree. Both need someone to tell them what to do.

Who have you seen praise Otamendi as a purchase who isn't a City fan?

Because, quite seriously, I've never seen anyone say "that was a good buy" or "he's a good defender for City". Not one. And I consume an unhealthy amount of football media, from 10 podcasts a week, MOTD, MNF, 5Live every night and probably 10 games a week, and I've never heard any player or pundit say he's a great player.

Go on to opposition fan or neutral forums and he's seen as a complete joke as well.

It's only amongst City fans that he's thought of as being good enough, and even that is very divided.

I don't think it's questionable that his reputation has taken a massive dive since joining us.

So you made shit up then is what your saying to try and reinforce your argument

Unless you've got no friends who are fans of other clubs, you know full well his reputation is in the gutter.

Can you post one single article from the general media that praises Otamendi's performances to contradict my argument?

If VVD is worth £70 million then yes, close to. Especially if it's to by far and away the best team in the World.

Only City fans would think we should sell a defender who plays every week for City to Madrid for less than Liverpool were going to pay for a Southampton defender with 12 good months behind him..

And I don't particularly rate him.
It's all about opinions mate.

A fair few on here think we will get at least £60 Million for Otamendi. Me personally i don't think we will.

A couple of things, one is that the nature of City's defense is that defenders get exposed a bit more than elsewhere, second is that it often takes neutrals and opposing fans a lot longer to see the virtues of defensive players rather than attacking players particularly when they have a slightly dodgy start and get a reputation. A personal opinion is that he has improved a lot

In the gutter!
You know you normally post decent stuff and I enjoy reading your contribution but on this occasion you are talking bollocks.

My argument is not about how good he is or isn't, it's that his reputation has gone down hill significantly since joining us.

He's seen as a complete joke, an awful defender who is always about to have a calamity and a dreadful transfer. You might not think that's fair, or accurate, but that's what people think. It's what pundits think, it's what the general public thinks and it's what Journalists say.

I would say that's in the gutter compared to the La Liga TOTY defender we signed who was pursued by several other clubs.

You must have non-city supporting friends. Go ask them what they think of Otamendi as a signing.

I'd be amazed if Otto was sold for anything more than 35m. Considering our record of offloading players for market value I'd expect us to be lucky to get 25/30m. A loan with us paying half his wages seems about right..

That makes no sense at all.

Madrid apparently want Otamendi, City's best defender this season.
City want Southampton's second best defender this year.

That one is valued twice as high as the other doesn't make sense. Especially when you consider the buying and selling clubs.
We bought one of the most sought after centre backs in Spain for £34 million, he's played nearly every game in two seasons and is now wanted by Madrid, our own fans are somehow valuing him at half of a lad who's had a good 7-10 months at Southampton and 12 caps for an appaulling national side.

As I've said, I'm not Otamendi's biggest fan. But Madrid seem to be and I don't get how anyone can rate VVD far higher than Otamendi.

I think you've nailed it regarding our business selling players.
