Agree. Definitely a forward. Lots of talk of over 100 league goals this season but the maths doesn't stack up in current squad. We've been saying we're going to give someone a real spanking for nearly a year now and there's a reason it ain't happening.

Not sure it even needs to be a top class forward when you look at the number and quality of chances we create. Someone running into the near post would get plenty of chances of a taller striker that the wingers could pick out.
Goater would get 20 goals in this team, just for being in and around the danger area when the balls come in. And he's several stone overweight these days.

In the 11 games Jesus was involved last year we scored 33 goals, that's without the second half of the season impact from sane and aguero getting used to the system...
They will blow that total out if the water, the problem remains a central defender!!

I get you - the present squad doesn't look like it has 100 goals. Kun and Jesus (realistically 40 between them), Sane and Sterling (15 between them), Silva and KDB another 10 and we should expect another 15 or so across the rest of the team team- Stones, Kompany, Bernardo, Yaya etc.... the one place where our goals have dried up is set pieces - Yaya scored a lot of free kicks a few years ago but we've been a lot less successful the last couple of years and as for corners - I'm more worried we'll concede on a break away. I guess the real question is do we need 100 goals? Probably upper 80s to 90 are what statistically we need if we concede 1 to 1.5 goals per game but statistics aren't always helpful it's about scoring the right number of goals in a game to secure 3 points. I still think improving our back line will be key to improving the performance of this team and making a more concerted title challenge.

The reason we can't is because 99% of the teams we play have 11 men inside their box, there is only so much we can do.Agree. Definitely a forward. We try mixing it up with having wingers, overlapping full backs and everything else but sometimes you just need that bit of luck. Thankfully if a team has a split second loss of concentration we seem to be on it and a ball is threaded through to Aguero or whoever and its a goal.
I would rather we took more risks with shots from outside the box as sometimes we spend 60/70mins passing the ball around and as we saw last year, we lose the ball for a second and the other team fly up the other end and score.

Yeah agree. The Girona game in my opinion underlined that we need a bit more physicality in our team. VVD would offer that. Perhaps N'zonzi as CM would also.I really hope we in for VVD brilliant at the back and up front on set pieces.
