His record at City is less impressive.

Demichelis, £4.5m
Sagna, Free
Mangala, £42m
Otamendi, £28.5m
Stones, £47.5m
Walker, £45m
Danilo, £26.5m
Mendy, £49m
Laporte, £57m
García, Free
Sandler, £2.5m
Angeliño, £6m
Cancelo, £60m
Aké, £40m

MDM was cracking on a bit when we bought him but I maintain that in and around the box there was no better defender in the league, and I include Vinny in that. @tolmie's hairdoo alluded to this the other day, our high line gets exposed but it’s the price we pay for the football we see.
Mangler just wasn’t a good enough footballer for Pep but again, in a defensive team that isn’t trying to play out from the back, he could do well. We all saw how he dealt with Costa on his debut; I also recall big nose not going within 20 yards of him when we played PSG. No, maybe not £42m or whatever was reported but not, for me, a disaster either. Just a square peg in a round hole.
Stefan Savic looked shit when he was here, but found his place at Atletico...

Demichelis was a good signing for £4.5m
Sagna was a good back up and cost 0
Mangala was a disaster we all know that.
Otamendi was pretty good.
Stones started well but disappointed and injuries have ruined his last 2 seasons.
Walker has been very good.
Danilo was a good backup and got sold for a profit.
Mendy - Txiki can't account for 3 years of injuries.
Laporte - Very good.
Garcia - Very good.
Sandler - speuclative youth signing who'll be sold on for a profit.
Angelino - about to be sold for 3x what we paid for him 12 months ago.
Cencelo - Not impressed so far but time will tell.
Aké - Not sure why he's even on the list yet.

Part of the problem with people who like to slate Begiristain is the inability to accept not all signings are supposed to be first choice starters for a decade. Sagna was a good signing. Richards decided to leave, we needed a back up, Sagna on a free was good business. Demichelis was perfectly fine as a 3rd choice, Danilo was a good back up sold for a profit.

Really, only 1 of those defenders was an unmitigated bad signing.

Apart from Walker & Laporte, there were better options for every one, which went under the radar.

But the role of managers can't be understated in these matters.

Lol @FCBarca

Can't get anything right...no wonder Messi is fed up of the place

Surely, that is Good, at least in terms of any chance of messi leaving, however minuscule.

The process to remove him might see him gone before January, but after this window shuts. if they dont get the votes the earliest he can leave is march, meaning a pre-contract in January could be a consideration.

Bartomeu staying also means he has to deal with any financial fallback of messi not leaving for a fee, which then weighs against the more popitical 'being the one that let him go'.

The only glaring errors there are Mangala and Stones.

40m does seem a lot for Ake but hopefully it will prove to have been worth it.
