That's true but I don't see why we should take such risks with a fundamental position on the pitch. You can get by with a dodgy left back but if you're playing Fernandinho as centreback you will lose a lot of games.
Firstly I dont think its taking a risk - its how it HAS to be done - owners like ADL and Bart whether we like it or not have the right to say no IF that player has a contract and if they dont want to sell him - its just how it works. The plan B is all about minimising that risk as well.
You have to remember that we are dealing with some owners who are absolute power mad control freaks - there is nothing you can do about that - they are as bad and if not worse than politicians.
Lastly Id say our dodgy left back could be considered an equal importance BUT Im guessing the club want to give Mendy (who they invested in heavily) a chance to prove his worth with a run of games at peak fitness. No matter how much you or I disagree on Mendy's worth to the team (and Im one of his biggest critics Id guess) the club have to protect that investment and give him a chance - if we were to abandon that and just try and sell him we would get very little for him - play him nd if he fails but at least proves his fitness then we would possibly get more when/if we tried to sell him.
