It's Quiet thread 14 - 'do one' edition

I've had a think about the possible reasons for this weird window.

I think my original thought that lots of teams will sell for cash flow purposes is still correct.

However I didn't see the extent to which selling clubs would chance losing a buyer to get the best possible price.

My conclusion is that the last week will be crazy and that's when we will do our business. Until then it's whoever blinks first and not many, Valencia aside, have. From a monetary point of view we can afford to wait and rightly or wrongly that is what I think we are doing.

We can't judge till 16 days time.

Purely a guess but I get the feeling there will still be a couple of huge signings and we are going to like them.

The realisation will set in next summer for some of these clubs with no supporters in the grounds they are losing big money.

With all the respect for Kounde i'd still take someone like Kabak from Schalke over him if the quoted 25m sum is correct, and then go all in on Upamecano next summer

I meant Brighton. They're both on the south coast, they both begin with a B, and I've never been to either, FFS! In any case, reading this thread, we could find ourselves in a dogfight with Bournemouth next season.
Brighton, Bournemouth. They're easily confused bud.

"Nurse; the patient in the bed by the window is ranting again".

You are arguing against your own point & agreeing with me.

It doesn't 'reset' it's an ongoing evolution as you rightly say. And those players might not be available 'now' indeed. That's why you move straight away, as in last year.

Would Leroy Sané be at Bayern now, if Bayern hadn't moved in for him last season, or would he now have a 5 year contract at City ?

We may indeed do some deals in a few weeks, after taking our chances in the comibg games & giving the new players no pre season. And it might save us some money.

If we don't sign anyone, then, as you say, we will also be in the market for a new striker next season. So 3 or 4 key players needed in one window. We won't get them all.

A week into the next season, if Sergio is struggling for form & fitness, will it be good management, if we are scrabbling around different clubs, making offers for strikers, or should we be on it now & just do the deal when the window opens ?

Same thing with Kompany's replacement. Except we've had 3 years, knowing it was coming.

I meant the season resets not the squad - the squad always has to evolve

Sane would have gone last season if not for the injury

I know the concerns about Sergio and our reliance on him BUT Torres brings another dimension to our squad which we didnt have last season (pace on either side and on the outside of the fullback) - he allows more fluidity in the front 3 than we had even when Sane was playing.

We arent scrabbling around - most of the deals will be already in place - this is how it works...all the contracts drawn up, paper work ready just for signatures - its the way its reported that makes people think that clubs rush around but they dont.

We have tried to replace Kompany - players wanted elsewhere - you cant blame the club for that. We cant over pay for everyone and the club has made it clear repeatedly that they wont. Thats not a good financial model as being proved by that lot over the road who slip more and more into debt with crazy transfer fees and massive wage bills - look what happened with Sanchez and people on here were going mad when we missed out on him - again another bullet dodged

The loss of David Silva while absolutey gutting also allows Bernardo more game time which I believe he needs - now while he is not at the level of David Silva he again adds more dimension and goals
