the consensus with who? You’re speaking on behalf of those who were clearly of differing opinions to your own.... I mean you’ve just thrown Andy Hill into an already laughable overview...

You have not said why it was laughable. Did you actually see Terry Phelan play football or did you knock about with him as a kid on Mocha Parade or something?
Andy Hill lacked pace but was a decent enough defender and also had some intelligence. City wanted to keep Hill, I don't remember them making much of an effort to keep Phelan, even though he cost a record fee. I don't remember any fans making much of a fuss when he left either.
Phelan was not a top class full back. He had pace and that was it. Thats why he spent his career playing for average teams, rather than good teams.
You disagree with my opinions but you have not discussed what attributes you believe made him good.
He was not any good with a football, his decision making was poor, he was constantly caught out of position and his idea of tackling was just running through the opposition player.

Firstly, and now is time for the lesson, so listen carefully

You don’t have the ability to formulate a debate as you can’t even deconstruct an opinion;

secondly, and in very plain English, one doesn’t need to speak on behalf of others to reinforce a point, it shows a lack of commitment

You discount who bought Phelan, the change in system and managers, going from one of the strongest back lines under Reid to one of the shittest under Horton, formations make players numpty, and under the right manager he was an outstanding defender, you disagree, fine, but don’t get above your station trying to be smart, it’s clear you’re challenged in that area...

Andy ‘fucking’ Hill, I’ve heard it all now!

Unfortunately one of the biggest myths in City history. Phelan actually played left back in that game Kanchelskis scored a hat trick.

Loved Phelan and David Brightwell was diabolical. But unfortunately Phelan played that game.
To be fair, during that time Kanchelskis was devastating, he was ripping every full back a new one!
