Whilst Maurice was playing for Bolton they had a set of smaller goals, which they changed at half time so they were always defending them. The man who came up with this wheeze was Frank Evans. Such was the lasting effect on Maurice when he left Bolton he wrote his most famous song:
Frank Evans for Little Goals.....
Here’s your coat, pal, now do one....

Haha - we did pitch the soccer schools idea to Kaka, but this would ceetainly be a different level.

I don't think we could go down the same path with someone like Messi, so readily identifiable as a Barcelona legend.

If I recall rightly, Neymar's £40m signing-on fee to PSG was paid separately, to become the global ambassador for the Qatar World Cup?

Could certainly see Abu Dhabi citing some kind of precedent, front-loading a massive part of his salary as a signing-on fee or giving him a small but significant percentage in the CFG (think about it...)

We would still have to pay him £500k a week salary through our own wage bill, purely for the optics, but the majority of his current earning power could be done well in advance and off the books.

Between us and the bedpost, Sheikh Mansour could push a button tomorrow that would see £50m land in Messi's bank account and another £20m to his dad.

Unless someone hacks Messi's banking details or he fails to pay the tax, there is fuck all our bitter rivals or Uefa could do about it.

This is something that gives us a huge potential edge over most teams - PSG aside - should we choose to us it. Messi, or any megastar, could be paid money before, during or after (e.g. consultancy when boots hung up) he plays for us out of AD - all totally legit and beyond UEFA's control so long as appropriate tax legislation is complied with.

it struck me last night just how slow we are compared to bayern as well mate? Plus the way Thiago controls their midfield is a joy to watch!
Bayern look streets ahead of us at the mo. After watching the Barça mauling, I was thankful we didn’t get past Lyon to play them. Their defence is actually not the most solid but the team as a whole. They won every single CL match, which is some achievement. Their players look very hungry.

I’m also noticing how a number of posters feel the red dippers need so little strengthening compared to us. And that’s on top of a very skinny transfer sortie last year. Yet Klopp is so often denigrated on here vs Pep.

While Pep’s undoubtedly still one of the top men, he’s certainly high maintenance in financial terms and several fault lines were laid bare last season.
