Where did these earnings figures come from?

It's been banded about by various reporters. Also, (think it was a sky report) a couple of days ago, the figure was mentioned in relation to football/wiki leaks.

Barca aren't going to pay him £98m in wages and image rights for another 12 months when they know they can't even ask for that as a transfer fee with ten months left on his deal.

Even more so, when the player refuses to play or just fulfills his training obligations. Barca don't have a leg to stand on.

Hopefully he’ll say something along the lines of

It’s been a privilege to play for this great club for 20 years, we’ve achieved a lot of amazing things together with the fantastic support of my teammates and all our fans.

I‘ve come to the conclusion that I can no longer carry the burden of carrying the team anymore and believe it is in the club’s and my own best interests for me to depart. It would allow me one final challenge in my career, without politics, to win some final titles and it would free up funding the club’s rebuilding project that it desperately needs in the upcoming years.

I've read about a possible fee for that amount but not salary, that's 2m week, doesn't seem right
