I think it is clear that they know he is going and that they are exposed due to the contract, however they can't be seen to just roll over and have their bellies tickled and so are going through a whole load of posturing bollocks to make them look in control.

In many ways they could have come out of this looking like a class act, instead they have gone down a different road.

Barca and La Liga couldn’t have handled this any worse. The writing is on the wall, they know it but they are acting out of frustration and anger, thrashing around making a bad situation worse - spreading untruths and lies. Everyone knows how this will end - Messi is coming to City and the Barca Exec are just making it worse for themselves - tarnishing not only their reputations but also the clubs. They are single handedly wrecking the relationship with their Greatest club servant - they should hang their heads in shame. Somethings don’t work out as you’d like them to but in senior positions you have a responsibility to act appropriately and make the best of a bad situation. Frankly a group of under 5s could outsmart this Barca Board; I’d honestly worry about the future of that club with those buffoons in charge.
