I don’t like the term stat padding but I think in terms of Jesus his numbers are bolstered by that. It isn’t to say he’s a great talent but for me on the big occasions or against the bigger teams or important matches he doesn’t flourish. There are examples when he has don’t get me wrong, Madrid home and away he was excellent but when you are looking at them stats have a look at the majority of the opposition. Have a look at any match winning goals or points gaining moments.

Wonky logic I’m afraid

Guys calm down with the Jesus stuff.

When has the club done a deal were you thought thats stupid?

How do you know, behind closed doors Jesus has asked for a move?

For me City always seem to have got the best out of every deal.

We will do what is right for MCFC.
While I 100% agree with the sentiment, our track record in the transfer market is a mixed bag.

Txiki and co. always do what they feel is best for City, but it hasn't always come off.

So tomorrows meeting between Jorge Messi and Barca has now been moved up to Thursday according to SSN, as he is still in Argentina.
Feels like stalling the inevitable.

100% agree.

Jesus reputation suffers from the idea that he is next in line to Aguero, so he is constantly compared to that benchmark. But Aguero's stats are a major outlier, he's been one of it not the best goalscorer in the league for a decade, it would be no surprise if we didn't see another goalscorer like him play for City in our lifetime.

Compare him to the other strikers in the top 4 teams: Robert Firmino, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Timo Werner. The stats and the eye test are favourable. Tbh I feel the way a lot of City fans talk about him shows that we've become a little bit spoiled.

This all day long, plus people forget the work rate, he is the difference between getting the ball back in the attacking third rather than in the defensive third so many times.

On top of this his runs off the ball give options and make space for others which makes goals too.

Given a run in the team as the main striker his numbers will improve but he gives the team so much more that ‘just being one of the top three scorers’ is enough for me right now.

Under rated is an understatement of the highest order.

So outside theory here:

When the silver lake investment was made the valuation of the club made me scratch my head a little as by any measurement it was optimistic at best.

However one of the comments at the time was ‘when we shared our plans with the SL team they fully bought into our vision’.

Looking at the events happening now; maybe this Messi deal has been known, fully understood and expected since before that time - maybe we reached out for the investment based on this happening? Had reassurances from Messi’s team and the legal team too.

This would explain the valuation fully and the draw for the SL investment.

I think this is all a lot more mature and planned out than people think, so the odd 25-50 million either way is fine print for a deal that’s already done.
Good thinking that

We fans, in the main, are unfamiliar with the drawing up and execution of strategic business plans.

Khaldoon et al are not

IF, Jesus has asked to move,a big IF, then put him on the open market and he is sold to the highest bidder, even in these difficult times he would have plenty of takers.

I would love to see Messi with us, but not at all costs. Two seasons is the consensus on his contract with us, then 3 at NYCFC. Talk of 350k week, same in image rights and then a large compensation fee on top to me is too much.

Forgetting Messi for a minute, a transfer window of Ake, Torres and Koulibaly, would be slightly underwhelming and a worry.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to sky for upto date news.

Maybe, but the wider interest of the CFG don't really bother me, MCFC is the priority.

I work on deals of similar sizes week in week out, when you’re looking at these types of figures your thinking longer term, you have a strategy and a plan that’s thought out in terms of 5year and 10 years.

A major event such as messi potentially coming available will have been played into this, my mind kept going back to the silver lake deal as soon as this started to come out (not the Chinese media deal as I think that’s a different agenda and the timing didn’t quite work).

For me I think this has been on the cards since the last talks over two years ago with Messi.

I would not be surprised to see a CFG strategy built around a Messi inclusion which gives city a short term boost on the field, a huge long term commercial boost, but at CFG level across the globe (starting with NYC) is where we reap the teal rewards as will Messi himself.

Silver Lake was the first pointer; we will expand the football portfolio into new areas and longer term I see this developing into other global sports also.

Kaldoon Et al are world class business strategists - they are at the top of their game, having come across them in my professional life I can tell you there is no short term thinking at all - every word, action and inaction is deliberate.

Whats the delay in getting Jorge Messi to Barcelona ? I imagine he isnt flying commercial.

George Weah was 33 when he signed for us, he played 11 games and scored only 4 goals. Messi hasn't had any real dip in standards yet, but just goes to show it happens, even to the very best.
George Weah had not legs when he came to us, serious attitude problem and was a lazy bastard.

Sean Goater can say what he likes, but Weah stunk the place out in a matter of weeks.

I'd make a guess that he is making sure he has absolutely everything in order before charging into a meeting.

As fans we get impatient and press start to speculate over perceived delay etc...

This is arguably the biggest transfer in history, a political landmine so it will need to be engineered in the best way possible for all sides. I cant even begin to imagine the layers of negotiations that occur with something like this. It isnt just the club, it's the sponsors, the image rights etc...

Ok you pedantic fucker, 3/4 of a season.
So reading between the lines Messi is on the downside?
Technically absolutely not, physically naturally yes. The balance between the two is not detrimental right now, however as we've seen with Silva and Toure that can change very quickly, even over the course of a season.
