Went back few pages back and to recap so far: no meeting yet but maybe on thursday .
Messi wrote poem next he’ll play piano and sing sad song with tolmie .
Good day.

I still maintain after the last week or so that there is an agreement in principle (very detailed though) for messi to come to CFG (and to city to start with). And the more I think about it the more I think it’s been there for a while.

All of this posturing is about how messi leaves Barca, he wants them to succeed going forward and want to leave without upsetting the membership at Barca (doesn’t care about current board however).

We are therefore looking at brinkmanship between Barca and team messi currently. Messi wants to leave with a small payment and wave goodbye in good faith to the fans and be remembered for the 20 good years and not the last couple of weeks.

The board however have thrown their toys out of the pram and want as much money out of it, and to make it all about messi being the bad guy.

Messi holds the cards here I think but is playing it very calm, very silently and professionally - who does that remind you of ?

Correct, Michael Jordan and the Bulls are still making shit loads of money on his legacy of a career that ended 20yrs ago. Do Barca want to risk this ?

Not to mention all the top players who went to Barcelona because of him. Top players will think twice about a club which has basically tried to stick it to an icon.

The lady journo also saying Pep wants Messi to stay.

She started Tier 1, now she bottom

Jorge Messi's luggage was too big, his journey was rescheduled for this reason and only can get on the airplane on Sunday. This will delay the whole thing now...

Shit source according to Hagrid. There is no way Pep would advise Messi to stay at Barcelona against his will.

Messi wants to leave. I think Pep (more than anybody), understands and respects his decision.

I don't see how they can't, Marv?

They are caught between a rock and a hard place. Sending Messi to Coventry, yet still having to pay his mammoth salary and image rights, with ten months left remaining on his contract, makes zero financial sense.

Coupled with destroying his entire legacy, they would have no vehicle to make any actual cash off his back while holding him hostage to his registration.
It makes zero financial sense, especially as they need the headroom on wages to rebuild their squad. So they actually need him to go now, because he won't be playing for them next season after this.

The question is, what's the non-financial outcome they are trying to achieve? It's staying in post, presumably, which is why its important to them to be seen to have done everything to keep him.

But if he is going, they will want a) to appear to have been the good guys in this, screwed over by selfish money grabbing Messi/City and/or b) at least secure a mahoosive fee.

Their issue is that they are getting the worst of both worlds - they look like incompetent dicks, AND they're not getting much of a fee. And it's too late to do much about it now. It's been a massive financial and PR cock up by Barca.

Be typical City if the Rags get taken over by the Ortega family and they pay the release clause ;)

Absolutely correct. In actual fact, City will keep it that way until Messi and his dad tell us the next lay of the land.

There is no need for City to even confirm an interest when it could still go legal. The last thing we want is a tribunal deciding to add an extra £50m because we have confirmed an agreement with the player.

On the offering of players and cash, again, see above. City have made it very clear off the record that Jesus and Bernardo are not for sale.

Messi has filmed his stuff with an Argentine unit, no idea who they are.

I saw something the other day which indicated they where Brazilian

At a time when Barca are desperate to rebuild their team, the hostage situation they’re going down makes no sense. Even for a delusional man like Bartomeu.

There’s an election next year and the club is in debt. No one in their right mind let’s someone on huge money sit at the club, without playing, only to walk away for free next year anyway. You can be sure that all of Messi’s sponsors will want blood for that decision. Money talks and Barca will be getting threats left, right and centre if they decide to go down that route. So many businesses lose if he doesn’t play. They lose, Barca lose and for a long, long time undoubtedly.

Quite rightly, other players would be concerned about their own situations. Will they ever sign up to buy-out clauses for more than £100m? Younger players will be unwilling to sign for more than 2 years for fear they’ll become trapped. Older players will want 5 year deals for fear they’ll be kicked into touch and their contracts not honoured. Huge repercussions for a board already despised by the fans.

I’m sure, to avoid court, if both parties (Messi and Barca) cannot agree that he walks away for free, a nominal sum will be agreed to terminate his contract. The clock is ticking and as much as Messi will want money in his pocket rather than Barca’s, he would probably accept them getting a wedge to rebuild in exchange for an end to this. If he’s to play for us against Wolves the deadline for arriving in the UK is fast approaching. How can I do my fantasy football team with this not resolved. That's probably the most important consideration in all of this.
