Koulibaly and a 'mystery' is all I can say. Whilst half the world expects it to be a left back, personally I think their target is another goal scorer/forward. But others think it'll be a CM.

It's been a weird year, and a weird transfer window so anything could happen!

Strong rumours of both a forward and another midfielder (though of course the forward could have been Messi)

Personally I hope its a forward though I can see it being a midfielder as Pep loves his midfielders(didnt he say once that he would play 11 midfielders if he could?)

I did say this before TH and Ahsan said it wasn't over...it made no sense for Messi to concede now.

Even if it's true that Bartomeu said €700m or court, why would you give up after a week? Why would you not use your influence at the club and power with the fans to try and pressure him into changing his stance?

At the very least, why would you not use the stand off and the carrot of coming back into the fold as a way to get some decent signings in for next season if you can't leave?

Nothing made sense about conceding yesterday on the grounds that he gave.

In terms of this window, it’s certainly over, I’ll take anyone’s money on that, too many variables at play now..

Now it not being over in the grander scheme of things, sure, I expected as much, however, it’s dangerous ground in 12 months,‘especially as it will be a catalyst for Kun to want to stay.... commercially it’s a no brainer, even in 12 months, but we’ve seen what commercial deals can do to the harmony of a squad if it’s for reasons other than football, which it undoubtedly would be after a year..... if we can do it now, great but not for me further down the line!

Hasn’t every single City related journalist already ruled out the signing of a midfielder? I also feel like Ake will cover both LCB and LB so it looks like a CB and a goalscoring finisher.

Quite clear Messi wants to leave, but his family have reservations about moving. I might be wrong but his family needs will kibosh this deal imo.

I think there has been too much been put in that part on the interview, I think that was more of a ploy to push his point of how desperate he was to leave.

So if we put an official offer in for his transfer, can Messi request for it to be listened to, or even accepted?

What does Messi achieve by staying a Barca, another champions league highly doubtful, another league possibly, Ballon Dor I doubt it. What does Barca get a disgruntled player, a huge loss in money, no transfer fee, seems to me both parties lose out, wouldn’t surprise me now if we put a bid in plus Garcia, Barca get what they want and Messi gets his new challenge if that’s what he’s really after.

New candidates for Barca presidency will campaign with locking Messi down for life. He would have no problem with Barca if they were much better state for winning trophies, and that matches new candidates project as well.
On the other hand we could have Pep still not renew until March and big question marks surely would come up at that point about him leaving, and believe me Messi would not entertain a City move without Pep at the bench.

He will imo renew under new board.

There is even chance they can push Bartomeu out before March, but March the latest he will be gone. Messi for that reason will wait until March, no chance imo for January deals/pre contract and stuff.

No, it’s nothing to do with him and Barça have said they’ll not deal with us a few days ago. I personally would just rather walk away now, it was great to be linked and get almost there but if we start bidding we’ll be made to look fools. In 12 months time it looks more desperate than savvy and I dont think we need that portrayal either. This was his and our shot and for some reason it was blown.

How’s he going to set up his re-election without any money to invest into the team? Messi signs a precontract in January and the board will surely get voted out in March.

This is a great point. We all know this is political and he doesn't want to be the man that sold Messi, but its much worse for them if messi signs a pre contract in January

I can see some disappointed posts today which is understandable.

However the criticism that Messi has "bottled it" is ill-informed and unacceptable.

Please understand that there was nothing else he could have done in this exceptional circumstance. There was nothing he could sign because Bartomeu would not release him and neither would La Liga . The only thing he could have done was sue Barca.

Now he says in his interview that his love of the club prevents that and that might be true but the main reason is that a court case would last longer than the remaining months of his contract so it would serve no purpose. Bartomeu knows this.

So the only thing left is to cause the Barca board more embarrassment staying than if he left and he has done a great job so far.

He said he wanted to leave then resigned then didn't turn up for a COVID test then didn't go to training then his dad published the clause publically then he did a scathing interview.

Precisely what more could Messi have done?

He has been consistently lied to by this Barca board and treated like a pawn in a political game. He was prepared to uproot his family to get out.

Anyone criticising Messi doesn't understand how a transfer works.

Oh,and by the way, there is obviously method in all this which City will be a major part of.

Messi has done a u-turn?? What a load of trash. Justify the statement.

There is still a chance he signs this window and that's what the interview was all about..showing how badly he wants to leave but that he is being illegally prevented. Having verbally burned his bridges there is nothing to stop him criticising the board constantly from here on in.

Messi has been brilliant and as good as his word.

Based on Tolmie's post, Is the play here for Koeman, similar to Pep for Sane? That only those who want to stay, stay at the club
