Two possibilities

1/ It's been rumoured there are Messi clauses in our sponsors' contracts. Likewise I wouldn't be surprised if Barcelona had the reverse: if they lose him perhaps their commercial income will be reduced immediately. €150m on wage savings and a transfer free might not cover it.

2/ They do want to save the money but for Bartomeu to justify selling and not reinvesting in players it would have to happen right at the end of the transfer window.

That’s why I can see money plus players being ideal for Bart

£80m - £100m + Garcia and Angelino would suit us to a point but he would more than likely want Jesus, Bernardo etc

Many new articles about how Messi will talk to the new president and see + bartameou won't respond to Messi's interview as he does not want to escalate the situation and wants things to calm down.

Maybe propaganda, or maybe IF Xavi and new president comes, won't be surprised if he signs an extension

He has already been paid the full loyalty bonus. Because the contract was a 3+1 optional year and not a 4 year, the whole loyalty bonus of 70m got paid out across the 3 years.
OK, some media were reporting he is due another large wedge of cash at the end of this coming season.

Its all coming from the sports papers who are close to fhe board. Quite incredibly they are devoting huge column inches to slating Messi and turning the fans against him while also promoting the idea he will now stay forever.

Thanks for that. So from the sounds of it, it is not something that might happen in time for messi leaving this window, regardless of it it goes on to happen.

This window for Leo is over, there’s no chance of anything additional atm. The ideal removal of Bartomeu would be by November If the voting goes well

Which brings me to the other thing that crossed my mind with this. That bartomeu Will let messi go and has agreed to with his dad, but on the condition that messi first agrees to stay, and says it publicly, at least until the threat of a no confidence deal is removed. I.e bartomeu gets to posture that he kept messi, and stopped hom leaving and hope that persuades voters not to sign the petition. Thereafter, he would soften his stance and let him leave, for some amount.

You didn’t see his interview or read his words? There’s no chance of that, there is mutual hatred

btw, do you speak Spanish? ie did you take the interview in in its original language

Yes and of course I watched it in Spanish - translations are never fully accurate or capture it adequately

ive seen you in a new light on this thread, your usually such an aggressive argumentative ,stubborn ,ratty, short tempered poster, but after reading your posts on here,i wish you would get back to being bluemoons mister angry ,i miss that nasty side to you

What if City did not want to take the risk of signing a player who would then be subject to legal action?

The one thing he has done is reduce the size of any transfer fee that would be payable in this window. I think that was what he was doing.
If he is so unhappy, why does he not buy out his contract and be a free agent.

And with all due respect of his desire to win the Champions League again, are we his best choice of club to achieve that? Are we not still a way off achieving that? Our defence is simply not good enough in my opinion, even if we have Messi in our team tucking away the chances that will currently miss for fun.

I do wonder if his wish is all football related and some of it is more the financial situation long term.

Quite bizzarre as you say. I think these next few days will give a clearer indication as to whether Messi has been or feels he has been isolated from the fans and his teammates.

Do Socios hope that Messi extends his contract after a new board is elected?

Personally I reckon there's as much if not more chance of Pep being in Barcelona next season than Messi being in Manchester.

I think something will kick off at Barca this week. Too much tension for it not to.
It wouldn’t surprise me if Messi was stripped of his captaincy.
How can he lead a team on the field when he doesn’t want to play for them any more?

Messi still has a few moves left up his sleeve I think such as being disruptive and being a negative influence on the team.

Total nonsense. Messi is bigger than the dressing room and will continue as captain.

As for him being disruptive on his return- again just won't happen. He loves Barca too much to hurt them like that.

What if he wants to go?
I guess that changes things... I worked with a German guy for years who was a Bayern Fan and also a massive Gundogan fan... he told me that he was “better than KDB” before his injury so never say never I guess ... I’d be relatively happy with him going as he has only shone in patches

That’s one of my points. How can Messi seriously lead a team he has no desire to play for anymore and the world knows that, including the dressing room.

Yes, he loves the club symbolically, but he doesn’t love being part of it currently. Far from it.

He won't be disruptive but he's already done the damage. You give your club a coating then expect to go back and get high fives from all in there. He's made his bed now he has to lie in it.
Koeman won't want him, he was a Barca legend in his heyday and has been brought in for one thing only and that is to tell players that they aren't wanted, he knows the Barca way and I'll be doing things differently.
It will end up a war of words between him and Messi.

It ain't over.
