Nothing to do with flapping just 100% realism.

We finished 18 points off Liverpool and lost 9 times, that's a lot.

We were well ahead of the pack in terms of squad and quality of players a few years ago, no longer, the pack are closing and rapidly.

Since KDB when was our last world class signing?

Again not flapping , just seeing it as it is.

That is flapping.

"Oh my god we lost 9 times!!!!!".

How is that relevant to next season? 6 of them were when Laporte was injured and we had no left sided CB and no pace at CB. That problem is fixed. Why are you still going on about it?

On top of that, we'll get another CB before the window is closed. So that's Laporte, Aké and another £60m+ CB signing that's being added to the side that lost most of the games last season.

If you're still whining about the defence, you're flapping.

Also, there is nothing more disingenuous than being hyper pessimistic to the point of melodrama and then bookending all your posts with, "I'm just being realistic! just seeing it how it is, man"

Oh I see, fair dos, I haven’t seen any posts like that but as I said earlier today I haven't read anything in this thread over the previous few days.

We are in the top 5 well-run clubs in the world IMO. Of course that doesn’t mean we don’t make mistakes and if, and it’s only an if at this stage, Ake and Torres are our summer signings I think it’s an opportunity missed to address the issues in our team and bridge the gap between us and Liverpool. Certainly don’t want to see any heads roll for it though.
It may be an opportunity missed, but we all know, not every transfer is straightforward, but the standard outpouring from some on here is there is blame and that blame has to be from our side.

I dont expect things to change on that front, but simply outlining why I think the flappers get constantly shot at

My worry with Auoar is simply that I don't want anyone signed in CM until it's established what Phil's role will be. For me he's an 8, and adding Torres means we will need him less in the front 3. If we're going to play Phil/KDB a lot, then we don't need another midfielder unless we're selling one IMO.
It's probably a bit of an oversimplification, but assuming we'll be largely playing 4-3-3 and want two players for every position given the amount of rotation needed, then I still think we possibly need one more midfielder. We currently have
Rodri and Gundogan as the holding midfielders, with De Bruyne, Bernardo and Foden as the 8s.

Unless Guardiola is planning on using Fernandinho as a holding midfielder again, freeing up Gundogan as another 8?

If we add Koulibaly or Kounde to Ake and Torres then it's been a decent window overall. I still think we're lacking a bit in midfield though - Aouar would've been perfect, but you can't have everything.

Agree on Aouar, he’s been excellent in 3 matches against in 2 seasons.i think he would allow Pep play 2 in the middle against better sides but with more aggression and energy than Gundogan. The Lyon match showed the weaknesses of the Rodri/ Gundogan partnership that Pep favours for big games.

Foden looks like a midfielder who sometimes can play wide because he's so good. But he's better centrally.

A trickier call is Bernardo. Where does Pep see him? Last year he played in a variety of positions. False 9, wide, attacking midfielder and sometimes deeper.

We have 3 wingers
Mahrez, Ferran, and Raheem
2 attacking midfielders
keV and Phil

All purpose Bernardo.

Given we don't know how much Dinho has left in the tank and Gundo is not ideal as a holding midfielder against tough opposition, a lot is riding on Rodri staying fit.
Yes, but until Fernandinho leaves and Gundogan sold, how do we bring in somebody to rotate, maybe Luiz next season. I think if we do bring one more in then Messi would have been perfect in that he can play in an attacking midfield, as a wide forward and as a true false 9. CAN't really think of a Messi alternative that can do all that, Havertz seemed the nearest.
As said it's easy to say we need somebody much harder to find them and balance the squad. Still think Ake, Torres, and a c.b gives us a very good team and a deeper squad than everyone else.

A CB and we are done. Good window.

Not sure from where talks of Striker or LB comes from. We haven't sold Zinchenko and Mendu won't be sold cancelo is decent back up there. Kun is here means striker won't be signed until next summer unless we get a good deal.

Next summer remains key as well with a striker and a CM in sights. Unless Pep changes his mind about youth and maybe we have Dela ready for dew minutes

Fernandinho sadly doesn’t have the legs to play DM anymore. I think we’re going to have issues in midfield this season mainly in the big games when Pep plays Gundogan and Rodri. Bernardo and Foden rarely played as 8s last year so Gundogan and Rodri will play a lot together.

We don't yet have said 60m defender.

So as it stands, Stones, Garcia & Fernandinho are favourites for right sided cb.

Ake may be able to stand in. Then we have no stand in for Laporte.

I haven’t been on this thread since the heights of the messi saga - they were the days hey - so haven’t read what’s been posted about for the last week, but having caught the post about flappers just now... is anyone that surprised?

Yes we might win the league. Liverpool might get some injuries, not have the desire, not hit their form of last season, BUT we are only winning the league if we are at our best and they have a dip. We haven’t used this transfer window to push forward IMO.

Torres is a player for the future, I doubt he’ll end up being a decisive player this season. Ake is a decent upgrade on what we have but questions remain whether he can slot in next to Laporte as he normally plays left too.

We’ve also lost Silva and as great as Foden is he’s going to still have moments where his form drops (or he does something stupid away with England). Agüero is pivotal for us and on the wrong side of age. Questions remain whether Jesus can fill his boots.

meanwhile Chelsea have bought very well and will no doubt close the gap between them and us(albeit they are still significantly inferior at present so I’m not saying they will overtake us).

Point beingare the flappers really flapping or are they not just being realistic?
You’ve been a member long enough to know there are only three species on Bluemoon:
  • Flappers
  • Happy clappers
  • Lowlife imposters, almost invariably rags and red dippers.
Then we have ITKs, wannabe ITKs and KFAs who form sub-species of the first two groups.
