My own opinion is it should be Ake, without any hesitation.

It offers Laporte the assurances he needs of regular game time, the club not legislating for the return to form of Stonesy and him about to announce a new deal.

Ake can only play on the left of a two anyway, same as Laporte, who is in a different post code, ability wise.

Dias plays both sides, so whether Stones gets injured or Dias does, the left and right pairing is not compromised as much if Laporte plays instead of Dias on the left.

Ake was only ever a squad filler and he's picked up a couple of medals he could never have dreamed of 18 months ago.

Harsh, but we paid £40m for Ake and on top of £70m cash, I think that is a fair deal.

Not on massive money, so hardly impacts Spurs wage bill.
Agree 100%. He is the one player in our squad whose ability and salary are probably commensurate to Spurs’ current standing. None of our main guys would contemplate going there and Levy probably wouldn’t match their wages anyway, never mind improve their terms

I can't imagine Spurs won't even come to the table for a player swap for anything under 100M, and they will probably want it all upfront.

The fact is they need the cash more than they need the player.

I could see them come to the table for 90M plus Ake, but even then that would be pushing it.

Why do you think Lewis would pump money in? As far as I'm aware, he didn't before FFP and hasn't within the limits allowed under FFP since it's been in place

I think Previously Tottenham for Lewis essentially functioned as Collateral for his other ventures.

He needs that asset to perform at this point because due to COVID the asset has depreciated, and if they lose Kane, the appeal of Spurs goes completely down the drain, in particular towards potential sponsors.

On the other hand, if they do sell him Levy can turn and say we got 150M for a 28-year-old, and it was just a good piece of business.

It's also the Euro's this summer, and Kane is the England captain. If they go deep this summer and Kane has a good tournament, that price won't go down.

In a nutshell,Spurs would be a great move for him. He's wasting his best years here.

In hindsight,an unnecessary purchase and probably something of a panic one.

I understand why we would think Ake is a good choice, but why would he take the step down when he's only just got here and hasn't had a chance to prove his worth due to injury? If it was me, Spurs would need to pay me more than I'm on now at City to take the step down

No way did city panic buy Ake. The club had all but written Stones off and we had ridiculously bad injuries to CB over the last 2/3 years.

I think we were worried about Laporte’s knee going again after a long injury absence and so wanted a left sided insurance policy. And also nobody foresaw Stonesy’s renaissance. I think Ake is our most expendable player now for various reasons

Agreed,as above....it was an uncertain and unfortunate time that necessitated we did something.
