Think thats a red herring. He was 18 when he chose his home town club over a move to Manchester. He's 22 now if he's looking to move on from Paris his reasons for chosing Paris over Manchester could well and I'd think probably have changed.
In that scenario as distasteful as it might have been they should have been looking for a buyer last summer when he had 2 years left and the pandemic's financial impact hadn't really hit home. They'd have gotten double the money, if not in cash then in a cash v swap deal.
He's a Parisien lad and a Real Madrid fan, I think it was just a case of having his choice of clubs and wanting to play for the team he supports or his hometown club rather than a slur on City or England.
