There can't be a bidding war with a release clause.
If the clause is 75m that is the final price. Any team who wants to meet that can, but they cannot bid any higher.
I'm pretty sure people mean a "bidding war" with wages and agent fees.

Have to smile about some of the Grealish comments on here. Yes we have a great team but over the last few years the only player that really got me off my seat was Leroy. You could hear the clatter of seats when he got the ball and he ran at defences. I sensed the same anticipation with Jack when he gets the ball.
This. Mendy is our responsibility until the matter is cleared up one way or the other.I havent seen those reports (that they knew of the situation in January)...lets say they did however for sake of argument...Im not sure they could still have done anything....they couldnt suspend him then and there until it was official and if they had gone in and replaced him in the Jan window and lets say loaned him it could have been seen (probably unlikely however but possible) that we were passing judgement on him and not supporting the player....I havent even looked at the case/reports etc so I cant and wouldnt anyway pass any sort of judgement on the accusations BUT the club I believe were probably correct in doing nothing...any sort of action either way could and would have been misconstrued by people.

it's not a bidding war - it's a *contract* war. whoever pays the highest to erling and his agent. There can't be a bidding war with a release clause.

Is it? Ah well.It is bollocks
I thought we were re signing BalotelliI took his "big big firework" as a clue given the limited number of players that can be fairly-compared, and that Dortmund fans let off some industrial-strength fireworks around the players hotel when we played them.
Simply asking the unfaceted question "did we improve" as a yard stick for measuring the success of a window is a bit obtuse. If you spend over a million pounds on one player in a window I sure as hell would hope that it was an improvement to the squad. That said we aren't fending off other teams who are coming in breaking our legs off taking our best players like many teams are. You have to measure the success of a window based on what you're absolute needs are and whether you met them or not. We had one absolute need and a few others that could have been addressed. We didn't lose anything that we didnt expect to unless you factor in Mendy... but respectfullt he's addition by subtraction. We didn't lose Sergio, we knew he was leaving and let it happen however I cannot believe we didn't fully expect to at least stop gap his position. Grealish makes us better but relative to how other teams strengthened and what we needed I do not think that we markedly improved.
