Despite all the reports saying we're going to renew his contract before the start of the Euros? One report from a shite source that he could go and you're immediately swung to the idea
I have said I think he will sign a new contract but there are plenty of reports we want to buy Grealish and so logic would say someone has to go and who out of Mahrez, Foden, Bernardo, Sterling and Torres is most likely?

I would say Sterling and with his contract situation it basically means this summer is our last one to get anything close to what we paid.

Nobody knows what is happening behind closed doors, as I said maybe Sterling wants a fresh challenge himself and if he can bring an offer to the table that suits then the club will have to weigh it up. If we can move Sterling and his wages and bring in Grealish on less money for little to no "net spend" then it makes sense.

Pretty sure people would've accepted us selling Mahrez/Gundogan for around the £20mil to £30mil range aboutn18 months ago, now both are arguably favourites in their position for team of the year (both prem and champions league)

Think if we get £100mil we sell, but I think he regains some form and we renew his contract

We aren't tight for money nor do we need it, the Sane/Garcia situations show if our value isn't met we won't budge....and while you may say we've missed out on funds for them the club obviously don't mind

We aren't Liverpool, we don't have to sell to buy

If we want Grealish we can get him without having to lose Sterling

Quite possibly, it is not completely out of the question. For all we know Sterling will ask to leave. It is all definitely on the table, Sterling is not untouchable like he was 18mths ago.
Sterling is not untouchable because he hasn’t signed a new contract. If he signs whats on offer he will be a big part of the team next season. Think it’s down to him more than any desire on the clubs part to let him go though.

Its not a case of being tight with money, it is just a case of being sensible.

Sane situation is one we probably wish we had back considering the injury but nobody can predict the future. Garcia, slightly different as the fees were nothing compared with what we are talking about with Sane and Sterling. I still maintain however we should have sold him but that is for a different thread.

I think we only get Grealish if someone goes. We clearly want Haaland and I don't think we want/can/will spend 250m this summer on Haaland and Grealish and just make it up for it with smaller sales. Bear in mind that if we are right and Sterling gets a new contract then he gets a wage bump, KDB just got one and we are likely going to want to lock down Foden and Stones as well. We have Aguero leaving and maybe Fernandinho but our wage bill is already big.

This is my point though, it is a huge decision from the club. Back Sterling now to a huge contract and if he doesn't get back to his old self we are pretty fucked.

Is he playing badly now because of the contract or something else, we won't know but its going to be interesting.

The performance against Spuds has definitely helped his case and if he can maybe get a couple tomorrow and maybe a few more before the end of the season then we will just write off whatever he was doing before as a one off.

That's what doesn't make sense for me, Sterling is a much better player than Grealish. He's going through some poor form but he's proved he is capable of hitting 30 goals a season and the club know this. Grealish just doesn't fall into that bracket, you'd be potentially giving up 2/3 of those goals.

Still scored and assisted more than Mahrez, another player who everyone suddenly loves after shitting on relentlessly.

It's almost as if all our players are good?
FFS just won us an away CL semi-final leg after stepping up to take the crucial pen in the quarters 2nd leg. Raz knocked us out in the Quarters last season. Those are the margins.

Well this is what Pep and the club need to decide, can Sterling get back to those figures.

I think the bigger thing at play here is that if we bring in Haaland, how much will that shift how we play and is someone like Grealish going to be better than Sterling in that system etc.

I don't think you can just look at it from the stats and decide.

You could argue that Sterling's best seasons have came when we've had a recognised striker such as Sergio on the pitch, bringing that back could be what Sterling needs.
