Well this is what Pep and the club need to decide, can Sterling get back to those figures.

I think the bigger thing at play here is that if we bring in Haaland, how much will that shift how we play and is someone like Grealish going to be better than Sterling in that system etc.

I don't think you can just look at it from the stats and decide.
It's only my guess but I think Sterling isn't comfotable in the no Striker set up, even with Jesus who roams and moves left, think thats led to poor form a loss of confidence and now he's anxious and trying too hard.On the other hand I also think if we got Haaland, Sterlings position would be much like it was with Aguero and we'd see a return to the Sterling of the season before last when he played with a centre forward.

The disrespect. Sterling isn't famous for scoring important goals for us or anything? Oh right, he is.

Back in the day, which is nice but not relevant to the make-up of the current squad. On that basis give Kun a 5 year deal because he scored 93:20 9 years ago. It's 2021 and that's what our squad is judged on.

If you want to base squad make-up based on the second half of 2017 then good for you, the rest of us will judge what he's actually doing now.

The rest of you might judge on what he is doing now, the important people won't, they will judge him on what they believe he's capable of next season and the seasons after. They can tell the difference between form and ability. They can also tell the difference between a 26 year old and a 33 year old so the Aguero comparison is pointless.

With respect bbp - the transfer fees for Coutinho and Dembele were paid in a mood of total desperation by Barca after losing Neymar to PSG iirc.

The market has only gone upwards though. Whatever kane is worth, Sterling is easily 20m more. Whatever Graelish is worth, Sterling is easily 50m more. Proven english international at a top club in top competitions in his prime. That's my metric.

I think its pretty simple situation.

If Sterling asks for significant wage increase, hes gone and replaced with Grealish on wages less than Sterling is earning now.

City are in bad position regards to wage bill, its very close to getting out of control as our wages are growing much faster than revenue is.

Something has to give to stabilise the wage bill, its just cant keep on increasing £20-£30m a year like it is been since Pep arrived.

Pellegrinis final season our wages were £198M, now £351M and will be even higher this season with PL bonuses + KDB and Guardiola extensions.

It just cant keep going on like that or otherwise we will be begging for Mansour to prop up the club again like its 2010.

Do we need Grealish? Phil, Mahrez, Torres, Jesus and Bernie can all play as wingers plus Palmer is looking exceptional in the youth team.

Total guess work, you haven't the slightest idea about any of that.
