Can we afford letting Laporte or Ake go and not bring anyone? Garcia won’t be here. Assume Ake goes and one of the three gets injured, it doesn’t look good

There’s no way we are gonna be able to keep all 4 happy. Constantly rotating your CBs is not preferable and stones / Dias will get the majority of games.

I think we will still have all 4 next season but I’d be amazed if at least one of them doesn’t kick up a fuss by the end.

Spurs can't afford to pay Sterling's current £300k a week wages, never mind his anticipated rise.

Raheem might also have something to say about joining a club without its best striker and no Champions League football to speak of!!

Nice stadium, though!
Surely he's reaching if he thinks he's going to get a pay rise based on his form over the last 12 months!?

Loads seem to get this wrong!!

Prem rules
We can have a squad of 25 players. All 25 can be HG, but as we have our full allocation of 17 foreign players, plus 4 HG, we can sign another 4 HG players without selling anyone.

CL rules
One difference in the fact that 4 of the HG players must’ve come through at your own academy

Different wording, the result is still the same though.

We have no space in our squad for new arrivals. It is one in one out already. Aguero and fernandinho leaving frees up two spaces, doesnt matter if they are home grown or not. For a third to arrive, a third player would have to leave (or be excluded from the CL squad).

Why will it be built for CL rules? We play far more games in the PL than the CL.

Why would a HG player be ineligible for CL when we could just remove Mendy from CL squad?

What player would want to be removed from the CL squad. What player would want to come here thinking they might be removed from the CL squad.

Pure fan bravado aside, it isnt happening, top players being excluded just so they can feature in PL. Youth players not quite making the count, maybe. But even them unlikely.

The team will be built to the CL restrictions which are the most onerous.

For one we always have. Secondly No player first team squad will just accept not being included in the champions league squad. There is no way we will sign more than 21 eligible players, other than as I have said a 3rd keeper. Just removing Mendy, even if he is stiil with us which he probably won't be, isn't a real option. Anyway you look at it the 17 non homegrown plus 8 homegrown for the P/L is irrelevant to us. We will go with 17 free places plus 4 Homegrown (possibly 5 at the most if it's a keeper) Plus any club trained/U21.

Exactly. For every homegrown player above the 4 limit in the CL we simply lose one of the 17 non homegrown spots.

17+4+4. or 16+5+4. or 15+6+4. etc.

No they mustn’t. They probably will but they don’t have to. Pretty certain Jovetic fell foul of this in the past, so no reason why Mendy won’t next season. That’s a plain & simple fact. Not my opinion, just a fact.

& I agree that this is unlikely.

You can say what you want (Blue)parrot fashion, but repeating it doesn’t make it a fact.
See what I did there? ;)

Edit.
What if we want rid of Mendy but he refuses to go. Don’t you think the club could say, fine, stay, but you won’t be in the CL squad?

I'm sorry but cmon. They must, because that is the reality of the situation.

We could similarly sign 50 top players but only play with 17. But we won't.

It is one in one out, while we are in the CL.

He doesn’t have to “answer to” anyone except his employers. Who are Manchester City FC and not the Spanish FA. What on earth are you talking about?
imagine pep being answerable to gareth fucking southgate because raheem isn't playing as often as southgate feels he should :), LOFL

Not similar at all. I’m stating facts, you’re incorrectly stating something as fact when actually it is incorrect. You said we MUST have one in one out & we really don’t.

PL rules
25 players of which 25 could all be HG, but there is a maximum limit of 17 foreign players, that currently leaves us with 8 spots for HG, of which 4 are already taken this season, leaving 4 spots left for HG.

CL rules are similar in the fact we can have a squad of 25 homegrown players, but 4 have to be club trained. Again you’re allowed a maximum 17 of the 25 to be taken by foreign players, but could also have a squad of 21 HG players should we choose, plus 4 club trained. We currently have 17 + 4 with nobody club trained

So for PL
When Sergio leaves we’re down to 16 foreign players 5 HG as Foden will be over 21. That leaves us with 21, so we could sign another 4 HG players or 1 foreign & 3 HG as per the rules so definitely don’t have to sell anyone

CL
Again, when Sergio leaves: In the CL Foden will take one of the 4 club trained slots next season, so our A list will also include 21 players. 16 foreign, 4 HG & 1 club trained, so again, we can sign one more player, either HG or foreign.

Should we sign Grealish & nobody else, he would be eligible to be added to the CL squad as we haven’t used our full quota of foreign spots. If we sign anyone else, then one player would have to drop out of the squad to facilitate this as the 21 none club trained slots are taken. This does not mean we must sell anyone as you stated.

Ive agreed it’s unlikely, but factually we don’t have to sell anyone to sign another HG player even if we were to sign Haaland

It’s got nothing to do with seeing what happens, your post was factually incorrect, so I was just pointing that out to you as people seem to confuse the CL rules with the PL rules.

What you’ve suggested may well happen, I’ve never disputed that. But what I’ve said is 100% correct & factual, what you said wasn’t.

Apologies if you think I’m being a tit, (it comes naturally to me) but I’m not. I’m merely pointing something out which I’ve seen loads of people get confused about, so just trying to help people understand the rules.

CL & PL have slightly different rules

You got our current squad wrong for a start, so I've stopped reading assuming the reat is wrong too (as it is based on the wrong starting information, rather than because I am a prick).

Your last line is right, different rules in the CL, and as a club that's what City will build to.
