I thought we were happy with the squad and Rodris season. Suddenly we are being talked about as if we have a squad like Evertons.

Whether we think he had a good season is one thing, it’s entirely different when the manager has to go with an improvisation in a Champions League final for not trusting him. That was probably due to micro analysis and thinking his mistakes and faults would cost us. And if that’s the case, it should be addressed

He is basically a DM who cannot tackle or run. He does manage a 5 yard square pass no bother. He has had 2 seasons to improve but, for me, is no better now than when he 1st arrived. Need somebody with pace for his position.
Try watching a game. He doesnt have to tackle cos he wins the ball back high up the pitch by reading the play and intercepting. He's actually a really good part of our press

Think hes had a very good season basically been 1st choice in his role. More of an interceptor than destroyer. I don't buy the theory that you have to have pace to play the dm role 2 of the best I've ever seen busquets and alonso we as slow as rodri it's about having the right mix alongside him. 61 games played out a possible 62 says to me that we r so close to perfection we r not going to have 25 players every season performing right to the top of there ability
Yes it's the team as a whole and not only 1 position. Busquets was great, but they didn't counter as well in Spain and that Barca midfield as a whole kept the ball extremely well. When Pep went to Bayern he mentioned how good German teams were at counter attacks. So he played Alonso as the #6, but came up with the inverted fullback to help stop it. This is something in which Zinch and Delph helped in that they both sat in midfield along side the #6. Zinch has been terrific, but like we saw on the goal on Sat. he can get caught out and isn't blessed with pace.

Rodri's passing and recycling of the ball is important so you need someone in the squad that can do his job, but you also need a capable fullback that has a mixture of good ball control and pace to slot into the midfield next to him to act like a DM on counters and quick transitions. This was the hope with Cancelo because he has a lot of these traits. That's why he's been a LB with Walker on the right at times. However, he can have lapses in concentration and is better on the right. Hopefully Pep knows what players he'll need to keep the team ticking.

Thats a fair and valid point. Rodri had a slow start to the season, hit peak form for about 2/3 of it then seemed to slump again at end where Dinho caught a second wind. I wouldnt have played Rodri based on his recent form but would have had no qualms if it was a month or two ago.

Think it was more down to his form more than anything. He had a few poor games specially the one against them right before and it probably affected Pep.

Zinchenko wasn't caught out. Watch it again. Walker pushed forward and was left with a two-on-one. Once he was bye passed, Stones had to cover which left him out of position. Zinchenko then had to cover Dias who was pulled to the right. Zinchenko was not the main one at fault. A defensive midfielder (Fernandinho) would have covered Walker which meant Stones would have been in position.
