Barca will get so much help and investment from so many people, they are not going broke. They are trying to clear the decks of the shocking amount of deadwood that's been allowed to accumulate, and negotiate the highest paid player's last contract. The president and everyone else at the club needs the perception of them being utterly destitute and even in big danger to go as far and wide as possible. They need to attract as much 'help' as possible.

They also need to be seen as in an extremely vulnerable state, so any one coming after them for old debts, or old scores, will be painted as trying to kill Barcelona. All the current debt can be blamed on the last president. "It's not fair to destroy The Symbol Of Catalonia because of one man who they voted out!" sort of thing. Laporta is playing it to perfection.

Sure, there's a squeeze on. But really - they'll be ok. Everyone in this business is leveraged. And it keeps going and going, decade after decade, because the club valuations keep getting bigger.

No big signings. Messi resigns. Sell youngsters and deadwood. Next summer, back in business.

They will still be paying much of the wages for the deadwood they shift for years to come

They will float the debt on the public market before they fold up like some think they will.

The Cules may not like it but if there is no other way, that may be how they have to raise the cash.
 
That massive loan they took out seem they using a big chunk to just pay players of the leave to get there wage bill down!

I don’t think it will go that far as there are always institutions to turn to with the football gravy train.

What will will do however is impede their ability to compete as they service debt over longer periods.

They were already struggling and looking to refinance before COVID, the super league was the way out of the red for a number of large European names. That didn’t happen with a GS backing so the money will go in through a different and risk weighted financing.

GS, plus three others are rubbing their hands together currently over this lot and are going to turn a tidy margin they don’t usually see on the deal, at the expense of Barca being able to blow everyone away in the transfer market, it brings them down two or three pegs and makes them less attractive to players (ie not a full team of super stars just one, maybe two).

Real, Juve, Spurs to a lesser degree (tv rights value) will also really struggle for the same reasons.

Of all the leveraged clubs the English clubs (particularly Spurs) are in a better position to cope with it long term due to TV right value, Spurs also due to increased income from American football deals when it all kicks off plus other events.

Strangely we will go from a position of power, to an even stronger position of power as the owners plans all come together both globally but also locally with new infrastructure around the stadium, silver lake plans are impressive to say the least, and our Far East plans I’m sure will be very impressive in a couple of years.

Yes they will not be on the same level, but, it will not be bankruptcy for them.

Yep and still be allowed spend millions on players throughout the years because of who they are, "the elite" supposedly! Funny how all "the elite" are riddled in debt, Not as much as a word said when they spend mega money and mega wages on players even with huge debts.
