I agree - One year deal to cover until Mendes arrives a year later? As you say we could ship Mendy out but we'd have to subsidise his wages at wherever he went - probably somewhere in France.

We wanted him years ago didn’t we? Same summer as Walker/Mendy. Dani alves’ u-turn shafted the deal as we had to buy Danilo instead.
Seemed a decent option back then but can’t say I’ve seen much of him in recent years. On a free could he be any worse than Mendy..

He is light years ahead of Mendy. We need cover on the left because Cancelo is not reliable on that side and neither is Ake. We were on the verge of signing Bertrand years ago.
While he isnt the long term answer,he's useful,and as a stop gap,on a free,it makes plenty of sense.

Bertrand isnt great,but he's a Prem left back and a good squad option,he's also better than current Mendy.
Specifically,and fundamentally,he might allow us the opportunity of waiting for the right player,i think that's how such a signing would be viewed.
