Some proper shite talked on this forum, Newcastle may well be taken over by the Saudis but under the current financial regulations they won’t be spending like a Harpurhey lottery winner in a brass house those days are well over!

Saul plays as a pivot now, he’s more defensive than attacking, aggressive in a tackle and wins the ball back a lot. But I don’t understand swapping a attacking player in Bernardo for a defensive one in Saul

Where he plays under simeone isn't that important.

We have all seen him light up the CL as an 8 a few years ago on Atleticos run to the final.

The fact he can be the attacking 8 but also excels deep is what makes him such a good option for a coach with more flexibility like a Pep.

We know first hand you don’t go from bang average garbage to our level of player overnight. They will need their Bellamy, Bridge type of signing phase first. Maybe the odd upper tier player might be tempted but nobody world class at that stage.

One thing regarding PL clubs is clearer than ever. Hugely rich individuals or states are clamouring to get a piece of the action. Even a mere billionaire owner is so 1990s these days as you have multi billionaire owners at so many clubs.

Yep new owners can spend 100 of millions like inter did you have to have a plan/project that in 3/5 years time you can be ffp fine and now is good time to spend big because of the extra year ffp as added because of Covid..
Newcastle still have to entice players though to them plus a top manager!

You only have to look at us, but, shows its possible.

Bernardo’s pretty much just used as a midfield engine for us these days anyway.

Saul would be more effective in the role that Pep predominantly has Bernardo playing because that’s what his skill set is actually catered for.

Bernardo’s been doing a job there for us and while he busts a gut game after game, he’s more than a midfield workhorse, but I don’t see him playing in another position in our side because of the other options we have ahead of him.

Conte?

How come the general consensus is that Bernardo wants leave? Have I missed something?

A few reporters have put it out there that he wants to leave. Sam Lee said he requested a transfer in the last window, no idea how true it is.

From what I can gather maybe he's had enough in England, there isn't much more to win for him there and maybe he wants a new challenge. Who knows, we'll find out soon enough.

Anyone else a bit non plussed if Bernardo left?

I like the guy and he's a fantastic player on his day. But in the four seasons we've had him, he's had one fantastic season and three ranging on average/poor. He's had his moments in those average seasons but he struggles with consistency. His numbers are nowhere near good enough for the positions he plays and personally, he's one of those I don't mind if we keep or sell.

He played well at times last season but he's not hit the heights that he did in his 2nd season. It's harsh but 1 in 4 aint that great.

Saul is a fantastic player in a position that we are weak in, and i'd take that deal if it was offered. Feel like Bernardo is easier to replace. He would be KDB/Foden levels of untouchable if he maintained his best form but you just don't know if he will and the averages go against him.

Probably tired of his role being run around like a maniac and start sporadically in random positions? Can’t say I blame him.
