Would've liked to see him involved in pre-season, but Blackburn wil be a good part of his development as long as he gets regular game time.

So pep doesnt even want to have a look at him? Not a good sign. Shame

I really wanted to see Byrne in the squad next season, but I wouldn't assume Pep hasn't even looked at him. He's got a full seasons of Eredivisie tapes to look through, and if he's phoned up and spoken to Yaw Yeboah, you can guarantee he's spoken to Byrne.

I get the impression Byrne really wants to play a lot of football now - I seem to recall an interview where he said it was great nailing down that 10 position at Cambuur and playing every single week. Wouldn't surprise me if he turned down a cameo role in the first team for a full season at Blackburn.

And like @Ric said preseason would have been nice, but perhaps it's better he's in Blackburn's pre-season so he can hit the ground running.

Competition in Byrne's position would have been fierce at City this coming season and the last thing you'd want would be to ruin the progress he made last season by seeing him play very sparingly this season. The assumption must be that, if he's going to be good enough to play for City in the near future, then he's certainly good enough to nail down a regular starting spot at Blackburn. A year of regular Championship football will do him the power of good.

Exactly.

A seasons loan at a club like Blackburn is ideal at this stage,he is literally up the road,a close eye will be kept on his performances and the experience and physicality of the Championship will be a superb enviroment to judge his potential.
By rights,if he has any chance here, his ability should stand out in a mediocre Blackburn midfield and that can only aid his confidence and development and maybe even get him National recognition in preperation for 2018.

A great move IMO.

Disappointed about this to be honest. If we didn't want him and couldn't find a a Prem club for him I would have much rather seen him stay on the continent. I think playing in Europe is a good learning experience for the lads from the UK and Ireland

As others have alluded to, I believe, this is a really nice move. He should get some extensive minutes and valuable experience in the Championship. He's an hour away at Blackburn so he'll be right in our backyard.

The next city player that needs to be loaned out to a championship squad is Gunn. Lad needs some minutes. Too good for EDS.

Gunns name has been recently linked to Preston, hopefully something will happen.

But not to stray off topic......:-)

He was never going to get a premier league loan. Playing well in a terrible Dutch team doesn't get you that, none of Chelsea's foreign loan legion get premier league loans after their loans at Vittese, who are a much better side. A Championship loan is as high as you can hope for and it gives him the perfect opportunity to show the other side to his game. He's shown at Cambuur he has the skill if he has the time, now he just has to show he has the fight to do that when people are kicking lumps out of you.

Hopefully we have the option to bring him back early if need be as well, which is usually the case with domestic loans, as he can't be too far down the pecking order in case of injuries in central midfield.
