Jack Grealish

Average squad player

I think Grealish is very easy on the eye if you are impressed by certain characteristics on a football pitch, but I think you make a valid point. For all the talk of him being a leader, a winner, Villa's talisman, how many of those moments has he actually had for them?

When you factor in the 100 million asking price which Villa will inevitably want for him, then feels like an absolute non starter despite all the noise around him. Stranger things have happened but for the moment that's my vibe on him.

I have watched Grealish closely all season. Must've seen Villa at least 6 times, or 540 minutes, and i cannot recall him changing one game or scoring a match winner. His last outing was comedy gold but i'll give him some leeway as he was just back from injury.

Class is Foden picking the ball up well inside own half, turning and running the length of the pitch despite several fouls on the way, and slotting one in the bottom corner. Grelish would've been on the deck before getting out of his half.

That's the first time Phil's done that for the first team in 4 seasons under Pep's coaching. Against us last season Grealish ran most of the length of the pitch to catch up with a one-on-one Raz and dispossess him, so the desire and athleticism is there and guess what? Grealish is coached by Dean Smith and plays for mid-table Villa and has delivered plenty of highlights including sticking it in the top corner at Old Trafford before now.

Effortlessly pinging a ball 70 yards or sending in good free-kicks with a socks down swagger is all fine and dandy but he goes missing when the chips are down.

Personally I think that regardless of his qualities, his character off the pitch precludes him from becoming a City player. There's been too many terribly embarrassing high profile situations that he's been involved in. Not saying we've got a squad full of saints, but you don't drop a club record on someone who was crashing his Range Rover whilst drunk less than 12 months ago.

I think getting out of Birmingham would be good for him in that respect

Unless he’s Salah on ice, it’s impressive that he’s broken the record for most fouled player in a PL season, especially given he’s been injured.

I personally believe he’d be devastating in our team.

This happens every summer. We start off all giddy talking about getting Messi, Haaland, Grealish and Nuno Mendes and we’ll get none of them. Luckily our backups won’t be too shoddy!

Yes but that's a risk, at those prices anyway, that I preferred someone else took.

Again, don't get me wrong. I like Grealish, he's got something about him the twat. I just think that we're not so desperate for another playmaker that we drop a club or British record on him when there are absolutely question marks over his character.

Last time we did that with a player it went tits up badly and now we can't get rid of him.

Even in this defeat, his ability is unquestionable. The weight of pass, the ability to find a man in a crowded box, the surging run, without going down, and chipping in with a goal to boot. He’s arguably the most Manchester City player outside of M11.
