Jack Grealish

Grealish would comfortably start for us. On current form, he is miles ahead of Bernardo, Sterling, Jesus and Mahrez. He is probably also ahead of Gundogan on recent form.

Grealish has performed consistently for the last few seasons. The same cannot be said about any of the players listed above. Bernardo, for example, had one outstanding season, surrounded by very poor or mediocre seasons.

The idea that he would be a bench player is completely absurd.
Our team got 100 points in 2017-18, 98 points the season after to retain the title and this season though we "only" got 86 we were twelve points clear of second. I agree absolutely that this is a team sport so I find it strange that you can be so dismissive of half the team which has achieved such outstanding results and I find your judgement that Grealish is "miles ahead of Bernardo, Sterling, Jesus and Mahrez" is, at the very least a long, long, long way from being proven. That he is better than Gundogan "on recent form" seems strange in the light of Grealish's injury problems. Grealish would not start "comfortably" in our team but would have to prove he was worth a place. And that is not easy...

That argument looks silly here doesn’t it. When Liverpool bought VVD, Otamendi had won a fuck load more than he had. Would you have preferred to stick with what we had? Seems you’re against social mobility for footballers if they show loyalty to their home team in their early 20’s.

....and he is hot property, that’s why City want to buy him.
He would walk into any team in the premier, not every team can afford him, maybe only us.

I pretty comfortable with everything I've posted to be honest. I appreciate that footballers careers take different paths too. Notwithstanding that, I also think that talented attacking players tend to get snapped up very quickly. They're hot property. It's why KDB went Chelsea > Wolfsburg > City in such a short space of time. Again it's not a hard and fast rule, but it tends to be the case with attacking and flair players that the best ones are bought pretty quickly by a CL club.

You 100% could have argued he had played at a high level for a long time (at the time he moved to Liverpool).
He was brilliant at Celtic and Southampton over a 5 year period. Winning PoTY at both clubs, several international caps, back to back league titles etc.

high level at Celtic ??? A Celtic that didn’t even have a fit for purpose rangers to challenge him.

mangala would of been the best player in the Scottish league ffs.

poty in the Scottish league ha ha , you funny man.

Also, his name is van Dijk. Unless you are deliberately calling him a homophobic slur?

get over yourself.

I guess we have very different opinions on what intelligence on a football pitch means. For me it's the ability to understand tactical instructions and read the game. Considering Sterling has been Pep's most used player, while Grealish has yet to play under a top manager, I'd say Sterling takes that one by default.

Same for adaptability- I've seen nothing from Grealish to make me think you could ask him to do a different job to the very specific role he plays in that Villa side. Not to say he's not adaptable - but he's something of an unknown quantity in that regard.

Also, suggesting that Grealish is more intelligent than anyone is a bit ridiculous when he gets pissed and crashes his car. During lockdown.
We have established he has made mistakes and been immature off the pitch, that is something he has hopefully put behind him.

We are just going to have to disagree about how much each player offers on the pitch, either through footballing ability, leadership or teamplay.

No he fucking wouldn't.
Celtic play/played Champions League football, a higher level than Aston Villa.
Then he had 3 exceptional years in the PL with Southampton. Grealish has had one.

Grealish was playing in the Championship 2 years ago so I wouldn't be so dismissive of SPL and Champions League football.

We also haven't even gotten to the off-the-pitch shenanigans he constantly gets himself into. Didn't he get into a hit-and-run a year ago?
