I think it was tactical. Southgate wanted an extra defender on the pitch.

Disageee Southgate wanted to go with a back 5 so one of foden or Grealish had to be sacrificed as he wanted to keep the pace of Sterling on the pitch for obvious reasons. Just unfortunate for grealish but fully understand the sub

There was no need to have a back 5. The Danes were done and England could have easily seen the game out as they were. At least he's not injured and his move to City is still on ;o)

I would of took Sterling off and kept him fresh for the final. Grealish along with Foden would of been handy in keeping the ball for the remainder of extra time.
