Jack Grealish

yeah it doesn’t look good but when you sign a contract and have a buyout in it that the player and the club agree on then once another club activate that buyout the club say nah you ain’t going you can see why Grealish would be pissed of..
Yes but having an unhappy employee forced to honour his contract is never good idea in most walks of life.

ESR is one of Arsenal's best players, and along with Saka, Gabriel and Tierney he's the young core they're trying to build around.

Villa aren't stupid though, presumably they're not bidding without encouragement from the player.
It’s an interesting one. It’s surely very rare that a club would bid for a player without knowing the player is on board.

Earlier in the season ESR was reminding me of KDB, he has some similar qualities/movements/techniques. A sort of KDB-lite.

I know nothing about contract law, but seems a bit strange that either party can pick and choose which clauses to honour.
"I know your contract says £150k per week but we're only going to give you £10k"
"I know my contract says I'll stay for 5 years, but I've had a better offer so I'm off"

Agree wholeheartedly. On the logic of it if nothing else.

Hence the question, as it is often claimed it (a release clause) is meaningless in England.

All depends on whether there really is one, as per the speculation. If it is 'only' a gentleman's agreement, possibly useless anyway.

Worked for Leicester and Mahrez, worked for Barcelona and Messi. Ronaldo at Utd. Siarez at lpool. Lots, come to think of it.

Which then begs the question - why would anyone sign a new contract that didn't include the 'gentlemen's agreement' part in writing?

The number of 'gentleman's agreements' that seem to be out there makes me think either that there are some very naive and poorly-advised footballers (in which case what are their agents doing?) or it's all BS and there are no such things.

Which makes me think, contrary to speculation, that there isn't one, a set release figure, in any format.

If there was, it would surely be in writing. And as such, it would probably already ne all done and dusted.

And obviously, there is every possibility it IS all done and dusted at a pre-agreed figure whatever that may be, and all else that we are hearing about 100m, 88m, intensified efforts, etc, is just misinformed speculation.

Particularly with players we seem linked to.

No. Only about Grealish and from you know who (who I presume still has contacts at Villa).

Having said that, I did say (when the season ended) that Sterling’s team had put the feelers out in Spain to see if there was still any interest. That’s from a current player slash pundit.

fwiw, in two weeks I’ll no longer have anyone to find out the odd bit of gossip from as I won’t be in Qatar and I’m deffo not ITK.
Did you ever hear again from the person you knew who said Haaland was pretty much done (or words to that effect)?

And lots get rid as they don't want a poisonous influence in the dressing room. Or as managers even more so eg one Howard Kendall.

Whoeever is acting on behalf of Smith-Rowe is definitely encouraging this. At the end of the day, whats the difference between Arsenal and Villa these days? if anything Villa look more likely to be going in the right direction.

Arsenal are no doubt low balling the lad and Villa look likely to have a huge pile of money soon so they are going to strengthen further.

Nah. De Jong said Haaland was City’s target and that he thought it was done. (This is the one I’m most upset about)

Gray said Grealish is moving to City.

That’s pretty much all I’ve heard.
Yeah, I think City will live to regret it if they haven't really pushed for Haaland. Ah well.

I don't buy that the club are not. And if they are not currently, I don't buy that they won't, later on in the window.

Just having a read over on villa talk... now I knew they was deluded but couldn’t help but piss myself at this hahaha.

I think Amsterdam Neil has been spending to long in his native ‘coffee’ shops posting that shite!

He is right. Villa are moving upwards, Spuds and arse are going backwards and quickly.

Villa just spent 30 odd on Buendia, going for Smith-Rowe and they potentially have 100m in Grealish money. Spend wisely like they have in the past 18mths and they are a top 6 team.

Why? I would say Spurs and Arsenal are right to be worried about Villa as it stands ?
