I heard that when City are recruiting they look pretty deep into all aspects of a player's character including stuff that might attract bad publicity.
If true they have missed some flaws over the years but on the other hand the media try and dig up anything, exaggerate or just make stuff up.

A players personality/character and off field lifestyle is scrutinised,it will make or break a transfer.

United had just been knocked out in Nov 93 by Galatasaray.
