The problem with young English talent is that the young German/Spanish/Argentine talent are far more developed and have been brought up to adapt to the modern game.
Kids in this country are still pushed through to evolve into the next Gascoigne, Gerrard, Rooney, Shearer etc.
Such moulds of players are now virtually extinct. There's no room for an aggressive footballer anymore. Gerrard and Rooney can still look good against other English sides that play this dated English football, but every time either play the champions league or international football, they go missing.
It doesn't just run through one or two age groups either, Sunday League is the same. This whole "Get stuck in" attitude runs right across the border.
And people like Hoddle, the Redknapp's, Southgate etc. on TV banging the traditional English football drum don't help at all. Talk about being 40 years behind the rest of the world, even Algeria look a far more technical side than England.
Barkley is another, looks great in the English game, just wait until he gets thrown into the international scene on a regular basis, he'll fall short like the rest of them, but not because of his ability, but because coaches abroad were teaching their youngsters a far superior game of football than ours.
Clubs like ourselves, Chelsea, Arsenal, United etc. all have adopted the same system to those abroad, but it's still going to be flawed. The kids they all bring through are going to come from amateur clubs that have pushed such a system.
And to cap it all off, people are now blaming foreign players for being too good. Hodgson is another, the other day he was on Sky talking about how English players need more game time. It's ludicrous, giving Welbeck more minutes than Van Persie isn't going to make him a better player than Van Persie.
Too many problems and it all rests with the FA, Germany saw through such a problem fifteen years ago and are now feeling the benefits for such drastic changes.
The best solution for City is to not bow to the media pressure on delivering English players, the entire system is broke.
