Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has admitted that last night's win over Aston Villa has been marred by another injury setback to Jack Rodwell.

The midfielder was forced to limp out of City's 1-0 win at Villa Park with a hamstring strain.

Rodwell's debut season with City has been blighted by hamstring trouble, with Mancini admitting that his medical team are no closer to finding a long-term solution to the issue.

He told PA Sport: "We are very sorry for Jack, because he is a good guy, a good player, but he is unlucky. It is his hamstring.

"I think it is impossible to resolve his problem after six or seven months because he's had this problem for five or six years and we need maybe more time. How long will he be out? Maybe he will be back after the international break, three or four weeks. It is the same injury.

"I am very sorry because he is a young player. He needs to improve but he has played very well against Chelsea and was playing very well tonight."

Mancini also confirmed that the 21-year-old will now spend at least three weeks on the injury list.

I wasnrt happy with this signing at first but ive completely changed my mind, his performance at chelsea and even at villa, you can clearly see his potential. felt so sorry for the lad coming off the pitch, clearly he was devastated. just hope he is not another MJ

Feel sorry for the guy but what were we thinking spending almost 20m on someone we knew would be injured every week.

Really poor judgement he was always injured at Everton.

£12m.
And I'd say they were thinking we're going to get a potentially future world class central midfielder on the cheap because of his poor injury record, which will almost certainly disappear as he grows.

If RVP can put his injuries behind, then so can this lad. I'll give him more time, lad's clearly got potential.

Rodwell, Sinclair, Maicon, Garcia!

What a poor window it was!

Get's me angry ever time I think of this lot. Sure they all have some quality, however how were this lot ever going to improve the current Champions of England.

Chance missed big time.

If Mancini ever does a book I'll be straight to the summer of 2012 to see wtf really happened.

Was it all really Marwood's fault?

Personally I reckon so. The wrong man for the job at the wrong time.

Genuinely feel sorry for JR and I hope like another poster that its age related.

Injuries get worse as you age. Ask my grandad. Get rid now, it's a shame but his muscles aren't built for football.

That's true over the whole life cycle. It's not necessarily so in the window of a footballer's career. Giggs and RVP have been mentioned as examples. City knew the issue and took a calculated risk.

At £12m I think he was worth the punt and can't see any point of getting rid now.
