Jadon Sancho

There's no point @domalino. The vast majority of fans have totally bought the bullshit idea that it's impossible to give someone like a Dilrosun a couple of games a season, even just 30 min sub appearances, without the whole thing being totally derailed and costing us the league. Absolute bollocks of course, but for some reason people think it's true.

It's not like we won the game to become centurians with both Foden and Diaz on the pitch...

I'm not sure if you're arguing my point further there or trying to prove it wrong :) ...but it does show, which I presume you're saying, that giving a kid a short cameo is most likely not gonna ruin anything.

Yeah, I should have learnt by now that sarcasm doesn't convey well in the written word!

I'm sure Sancho's goals and assists must have won Dortmund points this season too.

am not in the sancho camp and hate what happened ??? but people talking about the academy needs results but you have to remember its still in its early stage of its revamp and move the etihad campus and it will take time, also the club is only going to get bad media with things like the sancho deal because we are a easy target and everybody else brings in youth players ????? but we are talking about another level with what manchester city are at right now and its not ok just to be good to take a place in the first team squad you have to be special and standout from the rest and foden and sancho was the first 2 of many that will start to come flooding in

sancho was lead to believe his future would be better moving on by the people who don't know football??? and yes looking at what has happened to lad he will feel like a million dollars right now, but football is a cruel game and can be short and if things go tits up at a club then your stuck and made to drop back a level because you made the wrong choice when your really did not have to move in the first place and that's what i see in sancho

did he really need to play first team football at 17 then the answer is no, would he have got another chance at man city this pre-season yes, so how far has sancho come in a year well the media and others are going to say he was spot on in moving away and got into the england squad ??, but given the chance who would you have foden or sancho and hand on heart i would have foden right now, but that is not the question here and foden or sancho we will know only right in 10 years time and right or wrong can only be answered then

People have different ideologies on how a football club should be run, some don't care as long as the team is successful. Myself I'm somewhere in between and don't try to force my views on others.

Just out of interest does Pep fit with the vast majority of our fans?

Give any manager in the world huge, huge funds, and they'll spend always. Pep has done this at City and filled his squad with absolutely shit loads of senior pros, quality in every position. This has lead to chances for the younger lads being less likely - it doesn't mean that he thinks playing the kids is a bad idea, it means that he's taking the easier hand, and who fucking blames him? I certainly don't, and I don't blame fans who prefer that either. He's fantastic and he's the best in the world at dealing with a squad that good. Just look how good we are. It definitely works.

However, I think he's also the best coach in the world at dealing with young talent, and I think it'd be a shame if he didn't leave something of a legacy on that front at City too. It's a personal preference, yeah, but I think that's fair enough. We have it really easy, given our funds, and £60m signings to me get a little boring. It's like playing a game on cheat mode. I love it, defo, cos we're class, but I tend to think it means even more when you win with a few of your own. That buzz you get when a local lad like Foden steps on the pitch. It's ten times more than when Mahrez does. Undeniably. Cos there's a connection. It's real. Personally, I love that.

There is no doubt that it'd be one huge less stick to beat us with too if Foden comes through and becomes a star. Add another 2/3 around that before Pep has gone, and that's a legacy. In the way that Xavi, Iniesta, Messi and the rest of the La Masia clan did for Barca. That bond is stronger with the club and the fans and I think it'd actually leave us in a better shape for a post Pep world as well.

Pep's simply not had to develop young talent at City given the quality squad we've allowed him to build. That doesn't mean he thinks young lads are an impossible risk though. They're not... once again, I don't blame him for taking that choice, but that choice doesn't mean that the other way is wrong too. I personally think both approaches can co-exist quite happily, and I think it'd be nice sometimes if we didn't take the easy £60m choice and made a lad like Sancho 5th choice, instead of 6th choice. It'd be quite exciting, IMO. And ya never know, it could save us a shit load of money, or as domalino said, a few sub appearances here and there for promising starlets could hugely increase their fee, or even make themselves a surprise part of the squad by having a blinder. Win win.

Don't disagree with any of that but a 60m signing can also be quite exiting.
The off season would be unbearable without @tolmie's hairdoo youtube videos

Mixed feelings on this. The academy is making good money. I think the clubs first priority is to keep winning trophies, raise our profile and build a dynasty after years in the wilderness. If we can fetch a couple of youngsters through as well great but I will take trophies before this any day I am afraid. Foden and Diaz are getting minutes and if Sancho would have stayed so would he. The kids are 18 and Foden already has two trophies, minutes or not.

I'm happy for him. He took a chance and it seems to be paying off. He's a really great prospect and it would be great for England if he made it. I just hope he has the courtesy to have repeated stinkers whenever he plays against us!

Plus, secretly, I reckon someone like Soriano is happy too. Every success Sancho will have will be as 'former City academy player' Sancho. Which, despite probably meaning something else when uttered, would also make it seem like the City academy was responsible for Sancho being the talent that he is. Which would in turn go down as a huge win as far as 'the brand' is concerned.

So I suppose if you're looking at the academy through a purely commercial perspective it's a win.

That’s a ridiculous standard to set for our young players. Unless they are too 3 in the world then they aren’t good enough haha really ?
What are you asking me? It seems as though you have misconstrued the point I made, which, coincidentally, had fuck all to do with our academy players needing to be in the top 3 players in the world to play for us. My point was that we would not 'regret' (the degree to which is obviously up for debate) losing a player that is very good, if we could quite easily replace that player with somebody else who is also very good.

If Sancho turns out to be the next Messi or Maradonna, then we would most definitely 'regret' losing him; if he turns out to be the next Theo Walcott or Erik Lamela, then we won't lose any sleep.

I do not blame Sancho any more than i blame Sturridge both saw opportunity and took it, there will always be better players than Sancho and he is just a stick for sky and the bbc, It is obvious that it is Dortmund's policy to buy young and sell as soon as they peak, it can not be the coaching as they have sacked theirs over the summer, and that is where Sancho is going to miss out, the best coaching in the world Pep , something you can not catch up later in your career , Sancho picked the fast track over quality his choice good luck to him there will be another in a years time
