Jadon Sancho

Yes, there is. The lad seems to love the club and badly wants to make it here according to reports, and if we start giving him some playing time that could convince him to stay
Up to Pep ,nothing the club can do, doubt he'll get the time so he'll probably go. They aren't going to give him game time just so he stays.

He'd agreed a new deal and then went back on it; he had no qualms over playing time when the club waved £30k a week in his face.

I'd bet Dortmund waved a few million at him on top of that and his head turned.

If he backed himself to break into our side, as the club evidently did, then he'd be here and whether it was last season or now he'd have been in the same situation any player would find themselves in when they join.

The "if he backed himself" line is just so stupid. People like you try and use it like some blanket term to write off anyone. Transfer target turns us down? Coward didn't back himself. Youth player sees he's getting no chances? Weak kid didn't back himself.

It doesn't actually mean anything, it's just a cop out excuse for when we get rejected.

The truth is Sancho did back himself. He knew he was ready for senior football at the top level, and he's gone out and proven it. Not only that, he backed himself to succeed despite moving to a foreign country on his own, and having to learn a new language along the way.

Not backing himself would have been sitting in the stands next to Brahim, picking up 30,000 a week waiting for a chance that may or may not come.

They should though. That's obviously what should be happening. It's basic player management.

Brahim's going to leave for free. Massively rated player, club's been trying to give him a new contract for ages. If they gave him a couple of games - meaningful games that made him feel like he's making progress - he'd probably sign a 5 year deal, and then the pressure is off, you've got a couple of years to bring him through, loan him or sell him.

And whatever happens after that is better than him walking out the door for nothing.

You'd think Pep would be thinking about that stuff, he seemed to at Barcelona, but if not then the director of football should be just giving him a heads up - here's a young player we want to keep long term, and he's getting frustrated, let's give him a sign he's got a future here before he makes up his mind to leave. Maybe we'll get a £50m+ player out of it, maybe we'll just secure a £10m fee which Pep can put towards other players.

The club must know this though? If it was that simple and straightforward, why do you think they haven't?

No they shouldn't, Pep picks the team on football only, even if we did play him to trick him into signing then stop picking him again it would just be cheating him. Foden is different he is getting minutes because Pep is beginning to trust he is good enough and is ahead of Brahim in the pecking order. If he stays great if not good luck but it's down to him no one else

Firstly, when did I write him off?

Secondly, who are "people like me"? Folk that don't subscribe to your bullshit?

He took a step down and is flourishing, good for him but not a genuine shocker. We're a different kettle of fish to Dortmund and he obviously saw that and took his chance. It's the folk getting on like he left for Madrid and is banging them in. He started even in their reserves last season and is now starting, fair fucks.

The club had a plan for him, he didn't agree with it obviously so why would he change his mind after 2 years? That is what wouldn't make sense.

If a transfer target turns us down then fair fucks to them, I don't lose any sleep, so less of the generalisations. You'd thought you'd have learned that from your "all top teams give youth a chance" debacle.

Pep picks the team on football only

This is football. Giving a kid a game at the right time is about football, it's about bringing through better players. It's squad management just like resting an old player, or giving a rotation player a game before they get too unhappy on the bench.

I think the resentment with many comes from his going AWOL in trying to force a move away, which at 17, fucking stinks. But fair play to him for going abroad, it's clearly worked out for him.

I do think he's being massively overrated at the moment, look at his goals this week. 3 tap ins from heavy counter attacks, 2 or 3 against one. Dortmund system is so good for a winger, as they get so many chances to break in numbers and bag easy goals + assists.

I'd consider signing him if sterling went to real, but by the same token I'd also consider giving Diaz the spot so he signs a new deal.

It's obviously not thought by the manager and coaches it's the right time then or if it was they'd play him same as Foden. Why do you think he isn't getting the chances Foden is. Playing him to get him to sign a contract though isn't football. Anyway wrong thread for this.
