Whether people agree with Lula's politics or not, the world needs to step up its support to Brazil to prevent a return by Bolsonaro or some other right wing fucktard. It's in everyone's interest that the deforestation of the Amazon is reversed as quickly as possible. It won't be long before before most people recognise that this is a major factor in the biggest issue facing the planet.

I can’t either but the bigger problem was those who were telling us that despite the obviousness of all those characteristics, Trump was just a regular politician (“they’re all like that”) and just as bad as everyone on the other side, and those who wouldn’t vote for either side because they’re “both the same”.

Watched the documentary on the iPlayer the other day.
Bolsonaro really is a truly loathesome individual. Having his son run against his mother was bad enough but the comment, "You don't even deserve to be raped", well that showed what an absolute wanker he really is.
Some of the parallels with Trump/USA were spooky and I never fail to be amazed that people can forgive their politicians for being so immoral (I know that we shouldnt be surprised with politicians being immoral)
That huge swathes of the electorate in USA and Brazil, most notably women and presumably some of the gay community, can still vote for him flummoxes me.
I met a mid 20s Brazillian woman on Sunday prior to the result being declared and asked her who she wanted to win. She went all gigglely and gave a bit of a cheer as she said loud and proud "Bolsonaro".
I walked off shaking my head.
