Smart kid
Agreed, he's been with us since he was a kid, still very young, if he doesn't get a move that suits him it wouldn't do him too much damage to stay another year, maybe a loan and get a really good signing on fee as a free the season after

Why would we loan him out in his last year of contract?

If he doesn't get a move away (which I think he will fwiw) he simply stays as a part of the squad that doesn't take up a limited space.

Love McAtee. Don't agree he's been given decent opportunities - it's a nibble here and there. He'll play well and then we won't see him for weeks. You can't expect a kid that's used to playing week in week out to suddenly turn it on for 10 minutes when he's brought on, especially when even experienced players were so poor last season. Some players need consistency, and he's one of them.

Leicester away last season he changed the game when he came on. We were up against it and he came on and calmed us, his skill for the second goal was class as well. I think if he'd been given the same opportunities as Savio last season he'd have similar stats

Perhaps Pep doesn`t see this during training but I agree with most of your post. Certainly has the talent but does he have the temperament as some of the other young lads ?

He certainly doesn't seem to have being "cocky" in him, which I think is the difference between him and Palmer. Sometimes an attacking player needs that. James seems like a nice lad

Players need a run of games and he’s not really had that. He could prove himself elite in the right environment imo. Feels like a move to europe to a team with correct style of play and he could well be £40m+ player by his mid 20s

He played 67 games for Sheffield United across 2 seasons. 30 games in the prem with them and 15 with us although mostly of the bench.

He's a good prospect but he's not elite level. And at 22 he needs to be playing now.

Running his contract down is the wise thing to do for any player in his position.

When you factor in that Jobe Bellingham (Dortmund) & Matthys Tel (Spurs) went for 33m & 35m euros respectively, we're right to turn it down (especially given our HG squad balance predicament).
