Forest will be back in for him with a week left in the window maybe we get 30m but 5m of that will be addons! Teams either don’t won’t deal with us or see us as mugs to get players for next to nought

He played 67 games for Sheffield United across 2 seasons. 30 games in the prem with them and 15 with us although mostly of the bench.

He's a good prospect but he's not elite level. And at 22 he needs to be playing now.

Running his contract down is the wise thing to do for any player in his position.
Agree to a degree but they say in boxing styles make fights, and I think it applies also in football. Sheff U stylistically wasn’t the right fit. Depends how we define elite, but I would say he can play in most top leagues in Europe and in European competitions, with possibility of full international

We have done zero to make McAtee elite in the eyes of any buying club
He has been part of an elite, world class academy and has just captained his country to a Euro U21s title. Lifting the trophy as leader and captain
If he was called Macateeniho then a Spanish club would have a £300million release clause

The cult are asking £50m for Harvey Barnes ffs
Wouldn’t get a job behind the bar or selling programmes at our place

Like I said before, there's a big difference between asking and getting. The market determines the value at the end of the day.

It'll be interesting to see which of McAtee or Barnes turns out to be the more expensive. If it's Harvey Barnes, then James probably needs to get a better agent.

And proof that even unconvincing opportunities trump potential

He’s a better player than McAtee who has done nothing in the PL. McAtee barely got minutes too even during an absolute injury crisis and Foden being in an absolute shitty form.

And he's got only himself to blame.

City offered him a 6 year contract but he wanted 4 as he wanted to play.
City wanted to send him to where he'd improve but he stayed at Sheffield and did nothing in the PL.
Then City after fiasco with Palmer were keen on keeping him and he did nothing in the PL.

Pep throws em in to see who will sink or swim.

Remember Kalvin Phillips.. after Southampton.. Pep said he couldn't recognize his team.
Remember Sergio Gomez.. after his red card he only came on after a 3 goal lead.
And in McAtee's case.. after Feyenoord.. Pep looked like he had seen a ghost.

It is what it is.. he's made the wrong choices for a few years now!

From an outsider perspective it seems a little harsh on the lad. Sheffield United struggled badly and it is usually seen as the last throw of the dice, to field young players, ahead of more experienced ones, during a run of terrible results.

Put him in, when the team is in a rich vein of form, then judge him seems more appropriate.

That’s far too sensible an approach for us. We demand such players come off the bench or out of the wilderness and take games by the scruff of the neck, dictate play, and score hattricks willy-nilly.

My own perspective is that James has been given enough opportunities with the first team to determine if he is going to be a key element in the team for years to come. Whilst enjoying his eye for goals I have been underwhelmed by his ability to influence games on a consistent basis from midfield. He does seem to drift in and out. He lacks the work-rate and guts of Bernardo, is inferior to Phil and isn't close to prime Gundo. He will do well in his career but I dont see in him the potential that Palmer clearly had. We should sell him for the best price we can get. If he is attracting mediocre offers then other clubs clearly might think the same as I do.

Take 30m for him, with a buyback clause for 50m in case we're way off the mark about him
