I wanted JM to play and he did have a below par game. It has to be said. He wasn't at the top of his game, but that can be said of several yesterday.

He did enough. They all did.

He did a mountain of work in the right back position as zabba was either playing in a back 3 or had just lost the plot. He's not the greatest player in the world but he's definitely on of the most honest.

He also has skill that doesn't get mentioned regularly, look at the turn before he crossed for Dzeko, his performance in Munich and against United to name but a few. Will add Milner is tactically aware as well, which means he understands what managers require thats why managers like him around.

I have the same opinion on Milner as i do Kolarov and Dzeko. There should never be more then one of them on the field. They just hand over possession to the opponents to easily and far to often.

I've said before and it may be a bit harsh on the lad, but James is, IMHO, a Jack of all trades, in that he can do a job for us in many areas of the pitch.

In many ways, his versatility has been his downfall, as it was with Ian Brightwell, but all squads need a James Milner-type of player, who can come in to cover for injuries and suspensions, as well as playing to give others a break.

I really hope he signs a new contract and is with us for many years to come.
