Overrated? Nah, I'd say those who think they know football but don't, seriously underrate him, because they can't see passed the cliche.

As has been said countless times. He's not as bad as some would have you believe, and he's not as good as others would have you believe. He's a very good player but neither world class nor rubbish.

I'm guessing that Mancini and Pellegrini are two people included in the "think they know football but don't" cliche ;)

Horses for courses.

He's good enough for our squad and he should feel privileged by that.

Real Madrid, Barca, Paris, Bayern, Chelsea, all have squads who possess different shades of quality.

Milner is a very good player and deserves to stake his claim, but it's all downhill after City.

He's a very lucky lad in that he has won all these medals, because he certainly wouldn't have got them anywhere else.

I take him over Nasri maybe six times out of ten, but I also recognise that when Nasri is performing in those other four games, the technical quality is there for all to see.

I agree with most of that. I think in any top squad where you have competing players finding the perfect equilibrium can be tricky and inevitably at various points different players are unhappy. The most important thing IMO is to have a manager who picks player on their form/ability rather than on reputation, because in doing that they do what's best for the team rather than for any individual.

Seems you can't talk about Milner without talking about Nasri and vice versa which in a way is a shame because they both have roles to play within the squad and they are both very important players for us. If anything they should both fear the club signing someone who usurps the pair of them.

I have to see Nasri and Milner being two sides of the same coin.

Same as Clichy and Kolarov.

If we could only merge their talents into one player, we would be even more fearsome.

As an aside, I think we are now slowly making the transition away from players believing they are doing us a favour, to those who consider themselves lucky to be at City.

This is why at clubs such as United, Madrid and Barca, players have held their tongue or renewed contracts, because of the prestige associated and the reflected glory that would still come their way?

For the most part, Nasri and Milner are competing for the same slot in the team because neither of them is going to usurp Silva, Yaya of the Fern boys for their slots in the side. if we were a team that played just one out and out striker regularly, they might both have a shot at being regulars. As Mr A says, they should both worry about us signing a left winger with pace...

I think the level of prestige of playing for City is, like many things about the club, moving in the right direction.

To give Pellegrini his due he's catching up with those of us who think Milner is a cracking player. He'll be playing 3 in midfield next ;).

To give Pellegrini his due he's currently the manager of the Champions of England. Think might trump whatever you think is best mate.

When Milner is in the team he adds another dimension, when Nasri is in the team he just gives us more Silva-type play, but obviously not at the same quality or consistency of Silva.

You also claimed Milner was blackmailing the club, which was ludicrous.

It must still be nagging him that he's only getting more game time because Nasri is out.

When he talks about big names who are hard to drop, I wonder if he has the likes of Nasri and Yaya in mind.

Thats a good point ref Nasri, but based on his opening games for us Samir needs to pull his finger out quickly if he wants that place back. Jimmy so far as earned the right for a starting place.
Was Nasri not carrying the injury that eventually required surgery though?

So the manager of the Champions of England can't be wrong, can't change his opinion? You talk some bollocks pal, you really do

Actually if you managed to read my posts and let them sink in, you'd see clearly that I've been saying that Pellegrini WILL change his mind and probably has done based on Milner's performances so far this season. I'm not sure why it's offended you so much. Is Jimmy a relative of yours or is it just the whole IngerLUnd thing ?

Been far and away Englands best player tonight. Hopefully Nasri works as hard as him to get into the team

On current form both navas and milner are well ahead of Nasri in my pecking order when he recovers. In fact I'm struggling to see a way back into the side for nasri beyond the easy home games.

I'm hoping we go after Reus and sell Nasri at this point, even if he finds form again, I know it won't last long.

Those two have had an advantage in that they haven't been carrying a groin injury which has ended up needing an op.

Just picked up the paper this morning:

Player Ratings: Milner 5
Sterling. 7

Did I miss something last night?

thought jimmy played well last night,he kept it ticking over, and played some lovely balls into the forwards,a few passes went tits up,but over all jimmy is a player you can depend on,and is the reason that he is in a select band of English players that play for the best club in all the world.

I started watching the match, but it just didn't hold my concentration,as city have got better then my interest in England has wayned.

pun intented.

Easy home games? This is Samir Nasri you're talking about not Ged Brannan?

First half he was played in the wrong position, when he's played centre mid for us it hasn't been against a team who's whole 11 stay in their bottom 3rd of the field. It didn't suit his game at all. Second half when he was put wider was perfect.

He's been carrying an injury for three seasons?!?!?!?!?
