I don't understand the rationale behind buyback clauses. Surely a loan would make more sense from our POV.

Gives an incentive to the buying club if the buy back is enough.
Say it was £30m next summer, Burnley get £10m profit but only if he's worth it by having a great season.
City benefit by having a deal in place already, again a good move if he's worth it.
If it's a loan then could be a waste for all parties.
