I’ll be totally honest I haven’t followed the lads career since he left us so have no clue how good he actually is. Vaguely remember his last stint in the Prem with Burnley being underwhelming but a lot can change for a young keeper in 2 years. His stats last season in the championship were really impressive so if he comes in then fingers crossed he’ll be up to the challenge.

I think people highlighting his distribution need to remember that nobody out there is as good as prime Eddy. But he’s not been at those levels for a while now himself. I’d suggest it’s Pep that needs to change his approach regarding keepers. 2 of the best keepers around the last few years have been Courtois and Donnaruma who are nothing special at all with their feet but have both contributed massively to their teams by just being good at keeping the ball out of the net.

The games changed, we’ve changed. I wouldn’t be against us going a little more direct this coming season anyway and hitting Erling more often from the back. Teams seem to have figured out how to deal with our build up play recently
Think people are getting confused with the early days of ederson when we had lightning fast wingers and defended a lot deeper
Most of our defending nowadays is done 40 yards from our goal and Eddie's passing ability isnt used half as much as it was
Let's face it we all know Eddie couldn't catch a cold at a Chinese market so anyone that comes in would surely drop down the amount of goals we concede

Don’t think that’s quite right, we will always pass out from the back with Pep. After Bravo lots of teams saw it as a weakness and pressed us, after a while with Ederson and our defenders passing through the press andvpickilnd teams off teams backed off. So yes it wasn’t used the same way.
Got to assume with any new keeper we will still play out and if teams see a weakness in that will press us high , so Pep will stiill want a keeper confudent and good enough to pass through any press. I have no idea whether Trafford can or can’t do that, though from videos I’ve watched tonight he doesn’t look bad.

Agree completely. Ederson has been crucial to our success this last decade absolutely no denying that. But the vast majority of teams these days don’t even press him, they sit back in an organised formation and counter us because that’s what works. He’ll chip in with the odd ‘wow’ long ball assist now and again but I barely even notice his footwork most games because it’s basic stuff.
Early Pep era teams used to press us high and his footwork was invaluable, I’m not so sure it’s that crucial anymore, and his actual core goalkeeping ability has left a lot to be desired recently imo

Himself , when ever he's been interviewed the long term goal has stayed the same, even on Ben fosters podcast last month. Wants the number 1 shirt at city

Yeah from 4 years ago. I'm talking about now.

City wouldn’t be thinking about making a move for him if they haven’t received encouragement.

If he didn’t want to come we wouldn’t even be thinking about this one

Where has he said he wants to join Newcastle?
He hasn't, that I know of. But quite a few reports have claimed it.

Has there been anything that says similar for us or are people just making assumptions because of something he said 4 years ago when he was in our academy.

It is a genuine question.

4 years ago mate.
from a few weeks ago

Trafford appeared on a recent episode of Ben Foster’s Fozcast, where the buy-back clause was brought up. When asked about it, Trafford said: “I think that’s where I’ve always been aiming for, the top of the Prem. Everyone wants to go there, everyone wants to play there.

“To get there you have to play games, improve and then get to the level where you do go back to wherever I end up whenever, I’m ready for it and I’m the best equipped for it and ready to perform.”

Sure, but now?

By all accounts he wants to join Newcastle.
It’s clear that he wants, or at least wanted, to play for city. If he was never going to come a buy back probably wouldn’t be inserted. He would likely be the #1 at one of the world’s biggest clubs that he also grew up at.

That is in the context of him potentially joining Newcastle though.

Yeah to be clear I am not arguing he doesn't want to come here. Just asking where people are getting the idea that he does or if there were reports/claims that back this. Rather than just assumptions.

City have produced some great players from the CFA in recent years. No doubt that Trafford should be one of the next great ones.
Right, but for instance what was the name of the lad we sold to southampton? Bazunu I think, did not impress and ended up on loan to liege. not everyone is a success we should make sure we only bring back those who have proven themselves
